Well the ending is what had sell the deal for me and was totally inline and forewarn since the beginning of the series. If you leave out the trippy animated psychological trip inside the many characters' minds and the mystery shroud in pseudo psycho/théo/philosophical metaphor, it would have been just an amusing and boring decoy of gundam with cool and original mecha.
Fun fact: when you zoom into some document shown into the anime that are supposed to be in fiction doc, they talk about changing the anime industry, part of the metaphore can be seen as an essay on the anime industry as well (it need an impact to change, much like shinji need to grow up is own reservation) ... Could we say they have succeed?
However the real anime for me is ghost in the shell: stand alone complex season 2
They need a new impact thing because moe is killing everythings ...
EDIT: Gainex was a bit like the alan moore of manga, and evangelion a bit like watchmen ...

Yeah, part of the trick to enjoying eva is to focus on the characters and their interactions, as that's where most of the depth lies.
Although I do admit that the show has its flaws and can turn off a lot of people, I found the anime pretty boring until the 5th angel, although I enjoyed it much more when I watched through it again.

Bought two interesting looking series on a whim today
Welcome to Irabu's Office - A pro baseball player with yips, a man with a permanent erection, a hopeless yakuza underboss, an obsessive compulsive university lecturer, a mobile phone addict and an anxious circus performer. Welcome to Iruba's office.
Sounds fun enough
and also Welcome to N.H.K - as far as i can tell from the blurb it's a bout a bedroom geek who makes a hentai game

Kilig: noun. It is the sudden feeling of an inexplicable joy one gets when something romantic or idealistic occurs. I don\'t think there\'s an English word or phrase for it. even Butterfly Stomach doesn\'t do justice to \"kilig\".

I'm currently watching Irabu's Office (Kuuchuu Buranko) among some other stuff and I can tell it's amazing! It might take a little while to get used to the narrative perspective, but it's really rewarding and a lot of fun.
Well, not as rewarding as the moe police, of course. Reminds me that I still have to read the college years.

Can anyone recommend me any series? I have watched most big title anime movies, Satoshi Kon being my favorite director. I'm not going to be more specific just name some stuff for me. I have a pretty broad taste.
