I am making a new game, with pixel style graphics again, because that is the only way I can make it look nice, but I find it doesn't really look that nice.  Anyone have any tips to make it look better, or does it look fine?  If you need more screenshots just ask.  Background is suppose to be a black hole, because a lot of people were wondering, does it fit?

How does this new one look?  I added in some of your suggestions.

Well, couple of things:
1) What is the background supposed to be?  I would suggest having some sort of star field.  In parallax.

2) The art style is a bit inconsistent.  What I assume is the player ship is top-down and the enemy ship is side-on.  I would pick one and stick with it.

3) The bullets are bit meh.  I would jazz them up a bit.  The player should feel mildly awesome at least.  Those bullets aren't going to do it.

Other than that, the pixelart looks decent to me, but I'm great artist, so you'll have to get advice on that from others.

Maybe you should go retro all the way!

You could ditch the shadings and have a single solid color for each game object (since your goal was to simplify it enough so that it would look nice), like Atari games.

And also have chunkier, bigger pixels, like the ones on the health meter and score.

A problem I see with it is the resolution switching. The "pixels" in the heart are bigger than does on the ship, which make it look unattractive for me. Also, the UFO should be drawn like if was seen from the top, like everything else.
(Also the background doesn't look like space, your should put elements like stars, planets, black holes to it to make it authentic.)
Color wise it's nice, though.

Looks generic. Spice it up a little. Maybe even a lot.

1. If the game is supposed to be from a top-down perspective, the UFO is drawn at the wrong angle.
2. Work on the HUD, make it more thematic. Maybe an energy bar of some sort, anything other than hearts.
3. Lasers look boring.

I recommend you watch this video by Petri Purho on the concept of "juicyness". This should give you some ideas on how to make your game more appealing.

Round the bullets/missiles/lasers
Add some flare to the background
IMPROVE THE ASTEROIDS - They look like pieces of melting chocolate
Decide on the perspective
Switch hearts for mini ships

Thanks for all the feedback so quickly.

So here is what I changed so far:                                  (look back at top to see)
-Change UFO's to be the same perspective.
-Background change to something more space like.
   -Change hearts to mini ships.

Anything else?

Make asteroids more asteroidy.
round them more and give them a couple craters on their surface.
Possibly  diminish the amount of stars, because they can make bullets hard to see, but unless we see it moving, that might no be true at all.

I added in some more suggestions:
   -less bright stars
   -more asteroidy asteroids

How does it look?
Which screenshot looks the best?

Less pillow shading would be nice. That's the first thing I noticed in the screenshots.
Which screenshot looks the best?
The 3rd I guess. Though I feel there's not much difference in them.
