What about Heart Forth Alicia?
HEART FORTH, ALICIA is a Platform Adventure with some RPG elements in which a wizard girl was betrayed by a loved one, who attempts to destroy her world.

The game has the following characteristics:
-Original graphics
-Fluid animations
-A solid engine
-Original music (or pseudo-original :p)
-Semi-non-linear gameplay
-An involving story
-7 magical powers at Alicia’s hand
-Over 10 special abilities
-A fairy (Ingrid) with 4 special powers
-Over 8 areas divided into around 15 sections each.
-A night and day cycle which lets special events take place.
Also, gameplay trailer:

I have beta-tested it and can say that it is beautiful and amazing in both gameplay and visual aspects.

It also seems to use copyrighted music, unfortunately. Can't a game with that level of graphical quality get an original musician?

A few of the atmospheric animations and effects in there are nice (the mushroom's cloud and the bubbles beneath the waterfall in particular), though I think the character animations are a bit stiff and lacking in frames. Also, what's with the girl

for like half a minute straight?

Uh, I have to mention that mushrooms arent really enemies. But I dunno why that had to be recorded.

Genetos is an interesting SMHUP where the idea is to go from early i.e. space invaders to 80's stuff to recent styles. It's pretty enjoyable even though according to the site it's currently unfinished.

Turning the Tide

Side scrolling shmup. No demo available. Information is a little confusing since the website page both says that the game is completely free but will cost money. But it has been stated in the more recent information in the TIGSource feedback thread that it was now going to be freeware.

For any fans of the 1st one, I know that an Alex Adventure sequel has been in development for a good while just from interviewing and sending e-mails to the dev.. not sure about the status of it at present though.
