Hi everybody.

I'm the leader of the Odd and Useless project (devlog here http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=27462.0). We are looking for a C++ developer who would be interested in joining the team.

Warning: We're a French speaking team. I'm the only one who's fluent with English. So this offer is mostly directed to French speaking people. If you don't speak French but still want to join us we won't refuse, just know that communicating with the rest of the team will be a bit difficult.

Are you enthusiastic about game development and programming in general? Are you a perfectionist? Are you capable of finishing what you start?

Do you have a strong experience of C++? Did you master the STL? Boost? The templates? Did you read everything written by Scott Meyers?

If so then Odd and Useless is made for you!

This project is not a hobby, it's a bet. It's not an occupation for rainy days. Not a project to learn programming. Not a decoration for CV. Our goal is to make a good game and distribute it. We're scarifying our evenings, weekends and vacations to reach this goal, and it's been a year already. We're looking for somebody who's ready to do the same. We know it's a lot to ask for but that's the price for success.

We can not accept a beginner, neither somebody who don't have strong experience in C++ (even if very skilled with other languages).

FAQ:

-> Are you going to put your project on Kickstarter?
No. We don't need money to push the project forward, we only need time and hard work. Some people told us that Kickstarter could make us earn enough money to create our own company and work full time on the project. But even if that was true no member of the team is ready to give up his job/study at the moment. We're working on this project for free and we want to keep it that way.

-> How are you going to distribute the game?
It's not decided yet. We shall decide when the project is finished. For now we're thinking of a "pay what you want" or a "donationware".

-> How do you work?
No deadline. No scrum. The team is self managed. We believe it's funnier to work that way. And it's also more efficient since we're a small team and we're working on our free time. Nobody have time to do advanced project management. This can only work if every team member is serious, reliable and capable of thinking and asking others before starting working on something. If you join us we will expect the same from you.

-> What is left to be done on the project?
Plenty of things! Here is a non exhaustive list, you choose what you're interested in.
* Few graphical effects (shader, particles).
* An animation editor.
* Xbox gamepad management through Xinput.
* Hit weapons (attack, combo, animations).
* Monsters.
* Gameplay (damage computation, items, leveling...).
* Gameplay related user interface.
* Multi player management (not a priority).
* Mac port (not a priority).

-> What have been done already?
Plenty of things! Here again the list is not exhaustive.
* Engine.
* In game level editor.
* Character physic.
* Character animation.
* HUD.
* Shooting weapons.
* A test monster.
* Gamepad management (except the Xbox gamepad that requires more work)
* Input configuration menu.
* Starter (the program that starts the game and configure network and display options).
* Internationalization.
The code is clean and commented (in English). It has been widely tested and debugged.

-> How do I apply?
Just drop me a mail at nicolas dot baillard at gmail dot com.

Thanks Smiley
