Fight For History is an upcoming title that pits some of the biggest figures in history against one another in hand-to-hand, platform-brawl-style combat. Think Super Smash Bros but with characters from the past.

This will be a long-term project with opportunities for full-time employment as funding comes in, but for now, in its infancy, what we need are two people that are skilled and passionate to work with the Game Designer to create a functional prototype. This single level, two character sample offering will be what the Game Designer and the Head of Marketing take to investors as proof of concept, and needs to be relatively polished in its look, feel, and gameplay.

The Artist:
This job, initially, will consist of creating detailed sprite sheets for characters, items, status effects, and a series of images for the level design. The art style we are looking for is quasi photo-realistic, in that the anatomical proportions and use of light and shadow should be consistent with reality. And we are not looking for pixel art. That being said, there is a certain level of freedom in the design of these sprites that can be decided on in collaboration with the Game Designer.
12 hours/week will be expected at minimum, and the project should be completed in a timely fashion. You will have to meet deadlines.
The person who fills this position will be the first candidate looked at for work as a full-time, paid artist when the project is funded. At that time, if their skill level and work ethic exceed our expectations, they may also be offered an immediate promotion to Lead Artist, and given the responsibility of assembling and managing their own artistic team. Going forward, the artistic team will be responsible for drawing all in-game and out-of-game art (sprites, levels, game client art, advertising, etc.).

The Programmer:
This job will consist of making the artistic assets come to life. In short, if you think you could code a 2D version of Smash, you should code for us. We are not encouraging the use of one engine over another for the prototype, and will leave that to you to decide.

The person who fills this position will be the first candidate looked at for work as a full-time, paid programmer when the project is funded. At that time, if their skill level and work ethic exceed our expectations, they may also be offered an immediate promotion to Lead Programmer, and given the responsibility of assembling and managing their own programming team. Going forward, the programming team will be responsible for creating an AI system for fighting against NPCs, establishing online multiplayer functionality, implementing all further characters, levels, and items into the game, and creating a stand-alone game client to act as an out-of-game hub for players to peruse their profile, purchase characters and skins, read lore (history, really), chat with friends, and organize games.

We expect a lot from our employees, even as a fledgling group. That being said, we are devoted to this project, and will fight tooth and nail alongside you to make the very best game we can. So if you are devoted to your work and willing to take a risk for future employment, please apply.

The Application:
Please send a Cover Letter, CV, and Portfolio to this email: [email protected]

Please Note: If we see enough interest and skill in our applicants, we might choose to bring on multiple artists and programmers to speed the development of the prototype, in which case, all candidates in each department will be evaluated for full-time positions and given precedence over all other applicants (if we even need them).

Thank you for your interest!

Best,
Alec
