still, Props is supposed to announce something nut-busting this week ...

a lot of people are saying it will probably be iPad.  which would make me kind of sad because it would mean to me that they are spending less resources refining their core product.

I'm thinking it's reason for ipad, which bums me out for the same reason.

yeah ... bandwagon-jumpers.   Mock Anger

Was playing around with some chopped samples and instead of coming up with a song, I made these two loops.  What do you think?  Should I expand them into songs?  Any ideas for improvement?

Well they sound great back to back, so I say start with that and then expand.

Also, the big news:
http://createdigitalmusic.com/2012/03/propellerhead-announces-mobile-app-figure-live-announcement-coverage/

A little iPad version of Reason called Figure, retailing for $1
AND!
Rack extensions, a new plugin format just for reason. Basically VSTs, but made to fit on reason's rack and be stable. Will be out around the start of the summer in Propellerhead's new e-shop. AMPED

yeah, i've been tweaking and tweaking those loops for days now, so i think i'm gonna step away from that for a little and among other things give my Reason folder a much-needed organizing...

basically I just re-installed Reason 64-bit because now, I'm probably not going to spend much time with Ableton + Rewired Reason knowing that the VST's I was interested in are probably going to have RE's eventually so I'd rather save the money to buy those. Smiley  it's such sweet news.

made this experimental, ambient... thing last night.  it's really probably best suited as background music to late night creative work.  no melody just a feedback pulse and some chaotic effects with a few interesting surprises just when you think nothing is going to happen.

I just joined these forums and I'm so glad that there's a strong, if not small, community of reason users on here. Not that I hate on other DAWs. I'm just starting up with Reason and going through the motions of learning each instrument and effect piece by piece. It was also pretty awesome finding out that they'll have rack extensions(read:proprietary vsts, but hey it's something) coming out soon. Anyway, I've lurked these forums for a while and figured I should post something.

Also Postpre, that Battle1 track was great. I grooved to it for a bit today.

Nice to meet u dude.

Yeah I've been checking the props forums daily for any hint of 6.5's release.  And it's not even that I feel limited, rack programming keep my creativity busy, I just really want to see what RE's are at launch and what they're gonna cost.

Welcome and thanks for groovin out to my track.

I'm pumped for rack extensions like Dormin. Hopefully they stay on schedule and release it early summer, and hopefully I've saved up some money to buy all of them. I'm really pumped for BitSpeak so far.

I use Reason.  Here are a few of my tracks that aren't currently used in games:

Encouraged to see others using this software.  I'm willing to answer any questions I can about chiptunes in Reason 6 and general mixing/orchestration/theory stuff.

So, tell me what you usually use. You've got an authentic chiptune sound.

Create a new thor, right click on any of unused space on the synth, and choose "Initialize Patch" from the drop-down menu.  You should have the synth expanded so that you can see the programmer.  The default oscillator (at the top-left of the programmer) will be a pure saw wave.

This sound was used on some early systems, but the more commonly used waves are the square and triangle waves.  These pure waves should be able to cover a ton of expressive range by themselves, but you stay well within the motif if you add a light "soft clip" or "hard clip" in the middle panel.  Also, don't be afraid to add some light chorus effect.  The older NN sampler has some great raw synth sounds pre-packaged too.

The oscillator drop-down menus leave the option for "Noise" generation as well.  These can be manipulated for chiptune drum sounds and percussion.

I got some good samples for free here: http://www.boyinaband.com/2009/09/free-sample-pack-%E2%80%93-33-chiptune-samples/.  I've just saved a set of them in a custom Redrum patch for quick access.

There's some quick notes, at least.  Hope that gives some direction.

Ah, so you do it all in Thor. Good work! I'll have to check out the NN samples, too. I don't mess with the old one too much.

Here's a very meaty synth patch I made in Thor.

I just completed an album, a companion soundtrack to the original Duke Nukem 1 created entirely in reason. Where can I post my tracks so if anyone is looking for soundtrack work on their game development, we can collaborate on it.

I also have the latest version of FL Studio and Sonar X1 Producer for ongoing game and soundtrack development.

Samples of the Duke Nukem The Legacy Begins custom Soundtrack can be heard at my SoundCloud account:

I've been into making big pitch bending synths lately.
Glitchy/trippy hip-hop beatstrumental instrumental chip-glop.
