Be sure to take a look at the Boy in a Band Forums, and Dave's tutorials. He takes you through a few stylistic traits of genres, and look at the theory behind them, too.

Man, Luckydate is so good at mixing.  I read somewhere that he's said that he doesn't believe in mastering, he just gets everything sounding good and throws a limiter on it for loudness.  

I feel like he's good at getting a full sound using minimal devices.  Noticed also he's got a small offering of refills with mostly synth patches, wondering if I should get one just to see how he treats his synth...
