Feels like the face could use more character.  It has no notable features.  It's like a generic face got stamped onto a more detailed body.

The body looks just as generic... (and I can't really think on any way to make it more notable without breaking the artwork style)

Random question: are the black outlines actually black or transparent color? (if this is trying to gimmick old systems with 2bpp graphics it'd have to be transparent and rely on the background itself being black)

I really like that simple style, but I agree that he could be less generic. Here are a few variations I came up with just playing around with facial features and hairstyle. Some of them are a bit silly. Also darkened that neck pixel so that the face is more clearly defined. It read a bit too much like a lower jaw to me.



Looking forward to seeing more mockups in this style. Hand Thumbs Up Left Smiley

dammit. I couldn't resist either :'C don't take this as critique against the sprite as I thinks it works perfectly with the level of detail it has currently

oh man! love when rad things happen overnight.

i'm hesitant to put a nose on the guy because i think it would look too cartoonish or elf-like. that variation on his armor is cool and that cloaked one is real nice jad. would be interesting to include them all in this hypothetical game so if you die you'll spawn as a new character sprite. Smiley

maybe this could work tho? makes the face a bit more obscured and leaves more to the imagination.

also in this hypothetical there could be an item to break those bone blocks or one which allows you to walk on them without breaking. Smiley

Love the usage of shadow and hierarchy.  The pipes over the pit are clearly not valid areas to move into and it shows.
