Me and a bunch of Japanese flash game devs + 2 of last year's Sense of Wonder presenters did a meet-up thing in Osaka last week, and we had loads of fun and decided we should do it again, and also invite some of the Tokyo indies.

I figured basically every indie in the world is really just waiting for an excuse to come to Japan, so I thought I'd just check if there might be any interest among devs outside of Japan too? We haven't decided on a date but we're looking at early July in Kyoto or Osaka - this would be Japan at it's hottest and most humid, but if you don't mind sweating a fair bit I personally think it's a really nice time to be in Japan.

It probably won't be a game jam kind of thing but more of one-night social event, but who knows? It might end up involving a murigee. Nothing is really decided yet but this might possibly be the super-cool venue: http://www.krp-machiya.co.jp/

So yeah, basically just checking if there's any interest at all, if people would like to stay posted  Beer!

Hey, this is a really old topic. Almost exactly 1 year.
However, I am wondering if the spirit of the offer still stands.
I am in Kyoto and would love to get a few beers with fellow indies.

Yes, I know Baiyon. I used to work with him (not directly) on PixelJunk.
Maybe see you around :-)

Hey Charybdis, you have a bit of bad luck, we've met up a couple of times and last time was actually this Saturday (we only bother to announce it on twitter really). If you'll be around in July, we're going to do another one though, you're more than welcome!

Hi marcus
Sounds cool. Saturday was my daughter's birthday anyway, but I'll be around for the next one.
How many of you are there? Are you developers?

We've been between 13 and 6 people, all developers. Here are the participant lists for the past two times http://twipla.jp/events/3048 http://twipla.jp/events/8258 (if you've worked at Q-Games(?) maybe you know Jesse?)

Hi Marcus
Thanks for the info. Please let me know when the next meeting is, when it's decided.
No, I don't know Jesse. I left Q 3 years ago.
But I'm looking forward to meeting you all

Hey Marcus & Charybdis

What a nifty thread. I am currently employed at Q (in Kyoto) and would love to meet up. So please keep me up to date on any future shenanigans!

There's a new meet-up/nomikai in Osaka on the 17th (Sunday): http://twipla.jp/events/10236
It'll be a conclusion to the just formed 1-day long game making competition "ahoge-" ("stupid game") - but taking part in the competition is by no means a must to go to the meet-up. Winner of the comp will be decided/presented at the party.

(venue hasn't been decided on yet but it will somewhere in the Umeda area)

There's going to be another 1-day "ahogee" game making competition on September 16-17 (the theme is announced on Friday at 21:00 JST, deadline is 24 hours later).

There will be also be a nomikai on the Sunday (9/19 19:00, somewhere in Umeda) - if you're interested, please add yourself to the participants list at this link: http://twipla.jp/events/120834
