also, if the game really is unfinished, putting it on steam and not mentioning that anywhere is pretty bad form.
Unfortunately that hasn't stopped dozens, if not hundreds of games on greenlight.

There's nothing wrong with putting an unfinished game up on Greenlight. It's when they get on Steam proper and are still clearly unfinished that there's a problem.

Like this hasn't already happened, even without Greenlight.

I strongly disagree. First impressions are everything, especially in videogames. Despite claiming that your game is in alpha or whatever, people are going to make judgement calls and assumptions on what they see, no matter what. This isn't to say that showing off the development of your game is a bad thing, in fact it can be a valuable marketing tool (see: overgrowth). The critical mistake that a lot of people make is showing off their game when it is ugly, uninteresting, and a pain to look at. When you show off a game like that, no matter what you say to people about how early in development it is, there will be judgements cast on the game that may bite you in the ass down the road.

Goodness, it's only a matter of time that every came with a minecraft mode. This one is impressive feat for a one made project, even if most things on screen are already overdocumented. But that's AAA

As long as we are posting petitions, somebody made this one for the arma3 devs that were arrested for taking pictures of a Greek military base http://petition.helpivanmartin.org/signatures

I never really listened to the lyrics before tonight, but I think Brown Sugar is about a guy raping a slave.
edit: on a side note, is anybody doing a game in java right now? what graphics library are you using? (if it is something different from the normal java graphics stuff). Sound library? If you have used it, how is Slick?

@s_l_m
I'm making a java game with Slick2d. It seems that the only real choices for game development engines for java are slick2d for 2d work, jmonkey for 3d work, and LWJGL for OpenGl, although it seems difficult to learn. Slick2d works pretty well, although it needs more documentation.

Thank you for the info Impmaster. May the sun forever shine on your fields and may your firstborn child be a masculine one Anyway, that exact problem (lacking documentation) was why I was kind of leery of Slick. But I might try to look into it when I have some time now
