I don't know if I would want to stay there again.

The lady/guy/dude/bloke/sheila at the front desk was scary.

She was fine once you softened her up a bit. I'd be grumpy too if I were on the night desk of a hostel on my own Smiley

Does anyone know if Stansted or Gatwick is cooler? How much is transfer from there to Camb? We're trying to plan the trip. (:

Edit: And plan the trip = find cheapest travel path

Stansted is very easy to get to Cambridge from - you can get a train directly from the airport (I'm not sure, but I think you might need to transfer from Gatwick).

I took a coach from the airport in Stansted to a park around the corner from the CB2 (and not too far away from the hostel either), which was about 11£ (for each trip). You can either book a ticket in advance online or get one right at the airport.

I'm signed up! I've got a flight out of Stanstead at about 6.30 on Monday morning, so I'm considering not booking anywhere for the last night and just getting the bus down there at 2 or 3 in the morning - I think they run all night. Anyone try this last time?

Yeah I booked Friday and Saturday with plans to show up first thing Friday and leave late Sunday night. I haven't been to cambridge before so I might have a quick look around!  Wink

Is there a thread to organise room sharing at the hostel yet? I may actually be able to attend this one. Smiley

Not yet.

I just phoned the hostel up to see how group discounts work, but the guy I spoke to denied there was a system like that. If there's less than 12 of us, we can get a 4-bed room for £79/night and a 6-bed room for £118/night. If there's 12 or more of us it's £22.95 per person per night (more expensive) with complementary breakfast included.

Going to talk to Alex May to see how he got it so cheap last time.

There's a link on the front page of YHA with references to booking for groups of 10 or more, which links to HERE.

Yeah, for some reason going through that system makes it more expensive than it would be to book individually or to book per-room.

Started an organisation thread: anyone who wants hostel accommodation please post there.
