Flatmate introduced me to this recently. Quite enjoyed it. It pretty mandatory for me to listen to music at work as the boss and his brother are total chatterboxes. The music can be distracting every now and then but it's better than people twittering on whilst I'm trying to dictate to the machine.

Recently I've started listening to podcasts with game dev interviews, their long length means that I have a reason to sit down for a while and they also serve as constant inspiration and motivation.
Obviously I can see how this would be less than ideal to a lot of people, due to paying attention to code and a conversation at the same time, but I've managed to adjust quite well.

I listen to roguelike radio sometimes whilst coding so I know where you're coming from. But I tend to prefer it whilst level designing like Paul said.

Classics in general are excellent coding music - nice and beautiful background that (usually) doesn't steal your attention too much.

That might seem awkward but I personally think that the music from Limbo is really inspiring while programming. I also enjoy music without lyrics, zen, experimental, chiptune-like and all this awesome weird shit : )

I think I've mentioned this somewhere else, but I love this site: https://www.scenemusic.net/demovibes/I'm not really a 'scener' (something I didn't even know of until a while ago), but I like the vibe of the demo genre. It's by-request though, so the music is usually only as good as the requests.

I've been listening to a mix of glitch-hop (The Glitch Mob) and jazz (Nouvelle Vague). It's surprisingly fitting for what I'm working on.

What I listen to while coding? That's usually very mixed, so it's pretty hard to tell what I exactly listen to.
Well, right now I'm listening to
, but just yesterday I listened to some DnB and demoscene radio.
I'm not locked to specific genres at all (like most people are (in real life, don't wanna generalize anyone on this forum)). I'm only locked to one personal genre, that genre is called "Good Music".

Normally anything without lyrics, I find them too distracting as I start to focus on the lyrics instead of the code.
In terms of actual music, depends on deadlines. Closer to the deadline it is, more likely i'm going to listen to electro/chiptune to give myself a beat to work to. Otherwise I listen to Indie OSTs [sword & sworcery, dustforce etc].

silence preferably, usually the neighbours dog though....
I was wondering for a minute there if anyone else preferred silence. I absolutely can not listen to music and code at the same time! The music wins my thoughts over 100%

I've recently got really addicted to Infected Mushroom. With rock, metal music I start singing and kinda lose my concentration. "Saeed" or "Becoming Insane" help me get into programmer-super-saiyan-mode.

I ofter hear to some movie & game soundtracks. It depends on the days. Some of them help me to concentrate and other ones help me to keep keep keep coding and makes it fun, a kind of adrenaline I think XD. "MusicforProgramming" is a good alternative, I'm gonna try it. Ty for sharing.
