Hi, gamers! Hope all is well with everyone.

We're Spatial.io. We make free online 3D social games for players and our Spatial Creator Toolkit (powered by the Unity game engine) allows for developers to create and share their own games.

We’ve released six in-house, browser-based games crafted with our Creator Toolkit, which you can play here:
Punch Hero
Racing Empire
Shooty Shooty
Infinite Ascent
Mostly Only Up
Buddy Blitz

We want to know what you think; play our games and make your own games. Thanks if you've read this!

The indie games community is so small... let's get to know each other!  So that when we end up meeting in person it's not too frightening.  You know, like I want to know that DrDerekDoctors is a conjoined twin with a nipple on his forehead before I actually see him live.

Let us know what you're all about... how did you get introduced to gaming?  What are your passions?  What makes you tick? Let's go!  Feel free to pimp a website or art or anything here, too.

I'll start, and I'm going to rock it so hard so that you'll all be shamed to rock it even harder:

My name's Derek, and I'm the editor-in-briefs of TIGSource.  Eternal Daughter, I'm OK, and Aquaria are the games I most commonly associated with.

I look like this when I'm riding the subway without having slept:

How did I get into games?  When I was very young my uncle bought a NES for my cousins hoping he could get into it with them, but it ended up being ME that got hooked.  Super Mario, man!  It was amazing.  From then on, I started designing games on paper with my friends.  When my parents got a computer, the first thing I did was start making games on them.  The rest, as "they" say, is history.

I tend to like lots of different types of games.  My all-time favorites tend to be that way because I associate them with good memories with family and friends... as a result, my (incomplete) list may seem a bit pedestrian.  Oh well! Grin

When Zelda 3 came around, wow!  That first sequence when you're wandering around in the rain, trying to follow Zelda's voice, really blew my mind when I first played it.  What an incredibly tense introduction.

The Zelda series has always had a fond place in my heart because of the time I spent playing it with my dad as a youngster.

Phantasy Star II - Wonderful RPG for the Sega Genesis and another one I played with my dad.  Along with having great presentation, it also contained one of the saddest events in videogame history (at least for me): the death of Nei to Neifirst. *Sniff* Cry

Street Fighter II - My friend's dad would make us say Buddhist mantras 1,000 for a single quarter to play this game, and we'd fucking do it just because we were so obsessed!  Seriously, it was all we talked about for like 3 years.  Until this game came along:

Doom II, natch!  I won't say much about this one.  I was approaching my teens when this came out and, what can I say, I dug the great graphics and extreme violence.

Castlevania: SOTN - Pure 2D gaming bliss after such a drought of good 2D games.  I was like an old man being introduced to Viagra after years of impotence.

To be honest, I haven't played an indie game that I've fallen in love with the way I did the games of the NES/Super NES/Genesis era.  Not sure if that's because I'm too old now to be wowed the way I was when I was a kid or whether I just haven't played that magical game yet.  Cave Story definitely came close:

One of the things I (and I know Alec, too) want to capture with Aquaria is that feeling of bliss when playing those games of yore.  When you get so caught up in a story or idea that you lose track of time.  If even a single player experienced that from the game, I'd die a happy man.

So that's me in a (game-oriented) nutshell.  What about you?

Nice to meet you! I'm Rossy, and I stumbled into gaming through a classic Mario Bros. console. Passionate about storytelling in games and am currently hooked on indie titles like Punch Hero. Excited to be part of this community!

I'm Moses Doyle a self taught programmer/developer from the United States. Growing up I was exposed to my first computer (Packard Bell desktop computer) at the age of 15 and began programming using a language known as QBasic. My curiosity with programming quickly turned into a passion and created my first game less than a year later using QBasic. Later I moved to C++ for its Object Oriented Programming capabilities and overall robust language features.

I took to learning software tools such as 3D Studio Max, Adobe Photoshop, Cakewalk and Audacity in order to develop my own game assets.Since that time I have developed multiple game engines for different genres and developed various software tools for businesses such as POS systems, networking tools and websites. My overall passion is game development and has been since before my birth. Thanks for reading!

Hey you guys! Today is the day, not just reading, but participating.

My name is Florian, 36, from Germany. I like biking through the woods, hitting people in the woods (in Sons of the Forest), and touching grass.

When I was working on my first game called Run or Die back in 2012 I thought I should open up a thread here and talk a bit about the development process, maybe it is worth a read for somebody, maybe it will help with Steam Greenlight (back then one needed to go through that to be able to release a game on Steam haha). I never did. I'm not good with communicating my work and I bet some of you can relate to that. However, due to various circumstances in life including health related ones, I have now been working on my 2nd project for some years and felt like it would be right to finally create this account in here and talk a bit about what I have been working on. Maybe it is interesting enough for some folk, maybe it is not, we shall see!

Glad to finally get to know some of you fellow Indies, it is insane how much the industry progressed and opportunities developed and changed over time in the past 11 years!

Hello everyone,

My name is Antonín, and I'm from the Czech Republic. For the past 7 years, I have been working as a web application developer, primarily focusing on frontend development with React. In my free time, I'm passionate about composing music (specifically metal), playing guitar, singing, and also dabbling in game development using Game Maker Studio, which I do purely for fun. My girlfriend acts as my tester Grin.

Looking forward to being part of this community!

Hi everyone! My name is Rob. I've been programming video games casually for the last 15 years, and I just recently started getting serious about a roguelike/tactical RPG prototype that's showing a lot of promise. I've been working with a very talented pixel artist for the last 5 or 6 months, and it feels like things are finally coming together.

I plan on sharing a devlog here on the forums shortly. This place has been a great resource as a lurker for many years.

I'm Lucas, and I'm a university student who's looking to try and publish a few indie games while I'm still in college. My hobbies are composing music, drawing concept sketches for my games, exercising, and drawing pixel art. I have plans for a topdown shooter project and a topdown beat em up project that are both story driven.

I look forward to getting to know this community better! Merry Christmas everyone!  Beer! Beer! Beer!

Hi I'm Mike, I got my start being into games back in the old NES Days, loved games like Shadow Warriors (Ninja Gaiden in the U.S.) Faxanadu, Probotector / Contra. Then later moved onto games like Silent Hill, Resident Evil. Love all sorts of different games. I used to make games with a Clickteam product called The Games Factory, only ever completed a couple, one that got released called The Little Green Guy. Since then I've had a slew of picking up projects in Unity and abandoning them, but my current one I've been sticking to pretty consistently So hopefully this Third Person Shooter will actually see the light of day.

I like to try and cover all aspects of game dev. So I build my own models, do all the texturing, armature building, then the programming as well and I make my own music and sound effects (I've been playing guitar for years and love making strange sounds and crafting (Hopefully) beautiful and mysterious worlds for people to get lost in for a little while.

I live in the UK in a fairly sleepy seaside town called Bridlington and work as a QA Engineer for a Job Management Software Firm. I also play drums in a local Progish Rock, Classical meets Dubstep, Trip Hop with a Piratey twist called Argham, For some reason people actually like us and turn up to gigs, which is nice.

For a bit of a shameless plug / sneak preview, here is a video to the game I'm currently working on:

Happy New Year, and give us a message If you'd like some music doing for a project your working on, or maybe some models etc. Or if ya just fancy a chinwag.

All the best, Mike.

Hi everybody,
my name is Federico and you could say that I'm a veteran of this forum (according to my profile page, I subscribed on August 28, 2010), but in reality this is the first time I post something in 13 years. I'm actually very surprised to find this community still alive and kicking.
I want to quote Derek's starting post: "The indie games community is so small... let's get to know each other!" because it's crazy how much the indie community changed from back then - nowadays it almost feels like everybody is making games, and there are so many people involved, teams and projects that the most difficult part of it all is to get noticed!

When I originally joined, I was working on my first indie project: Escape from Quaoar. It never saw the light of day, but some of the old timers here might remember that trailer. It has 20k views and I have no clue how it managed to get all that attention. The times were different...
But what happened in the meantime? And why am I back?
Quick recap: I managed to get a Computer Science degree, start a second indie project (also never released) and went to work for more than a decade as a programmer for a number game companies (most notable: Creative Assembly and Rocksteady).
Apart from coding, in my free time I like to fly with my paraglider and enjoy nature and the outdoors.

Then two years ago I quit everything and started my own, two people indie studio: Pixel Rats.
We are working on Kiyo, our first title made completely from scratch.

I'll post more soon about it in the DevLog and Playtest subforums, so stay tuned!

Nice to meet you all again.

Hi everyone,

I'm Ricardo, from Spain. I'm a ML engineer with some years of expertise and now I'm dedicating my free time to make games. Something I always wanted.

I'm very interested in the design aspect of videogames and the method to make them fun to play. That's basically my first rule.

Hope to see you all over here and learn from each other.

Hi!

I'm Rune from Norway (living in Estonia). I'm working on my first game, Mercatorio, a medieval economy simulation MMO with sophisticated trading mechanics, as well as more standard production and logistics elements.

The game is currently in free early-access and I'm looking for feedback and suggestions on how to improve it.

Hello!  Cave Story I'm VicooDi a game developer making my own game GIZMO, I got into gaming from super mario and snow balled from there into becoming a game's nerd, the trigger for me deciding to become a game dev was playing undertale and having a burning desire to create something of my own, to tell people a story and have them engaged in it. that was almost 6 years ago and I've been making small games ever since, now i have finally gotten to my first "big" game project, it's called GIZMO and it's a 2D puzzle platformer about a small robot lost in a science research facility looking to find his maker in order to remember his name, I know the genre is quiet dead by now but I'm making this out of love.
I'm a generalist so i put my fingers and almost all aspects of making games from art and music to code and design.
my favorite games are, super mario world, portal & half-lif series, undertale, dark souls and a bunch of indie gems like cave story, dreaming sara, shovel knight and recently i've been enjoying pizza tower.
looking forward to meeting wonderfull people  Gentleman
