@JobLeonard reminds me of this other nostalgia-wave classic:
One of the things I liked about the old trek is that they would have an intro scene that seemed totally random but really the whole movie is revealed in that scene. Which is part of the nerdy old writing of old trek. Climbing the mountain isn't about love, like the kind of love involved with getting your fingers in there (lol), its about building a relationship with a once hostile nation, which would be saved by gravity boots. Nutrek seems to have decided this is boring, and so the jocks are running the show.
Wrath of Kahn had a few intro scenes that set the tone for the entire film:
Of course, literary buffs will know that the book in question involves a character sacrificing themselves for another character who he felt was more worthy of living.
And then I always think of this scene when I have a very painful frustrating moment in my life:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVd-U1sAwvoOf course the parallel between the classic book and the movie is pretty obvious. Now I could never get past the first third of Moby Dick because it needs A LOT of editing. The book could be so much shorter imo. The beauty of the trek scene is that he breaks a miniature model of his own ship while talking about how he has to avoid destroying the ship. Its nuanced and bold at the same time.
