Missed an update, I was fishing with a friend for the weekend. Although I have made progress, i'll save all that for this weekend. The name is changed. I felt the old name was weird, hard to pronounce, and all around didn't fit.

Also, thanks for all the nice comments, and almost 4000 views!   Beer!

UPDATE 4(I THINK...)

Wow, I still haven't added any more enemies?
What in the world could I have been doing all week?
 
Well, I've been working on making this an actual game rather than a tech demo/coding practice.
What that means is I've been doing stuff I can't really show with GIFs and images, but I have been making HUGE progress.

1. Speed optimization
Even on my old(ish) PC, it's been running 60fps without any dips, and with some scripts, this preforms ALOT better than most GM8 games.

2. Code optimization
Making the code take up less space frees some cpu time for more fancy particle effects!

3. Button controlled menu
This may sound lame, but this is my first time making a button controlled menu, so it took a day and a half.  WTF

4. Level design for the beta testers
Yes, I am making a whole separate game world (metroidvaina levels = lots 'a work) for the select few I'll use to screen EVERYTHING in the game, but since I don't want them to get stuff other people might pay for for free, the option I have left is to make the whole game twice. The first time smaller; and with feedback, the second will be the finished product (and hopefully a lot bigger!).


As I have nothing to show today, expect periodic GIFs through next week!

Although I greatly appreciate your comment, I am using a method I didn't make.
Even without copy pasting, I feel my method could be too close to the original.  Embarrassed

This image by LizardHeim is a huge inspiration, and possibly better than my game altogether.
And yes, I do have his permission to borrow certain aspects of the design.

I knew I saw these tiles somewhere before. Your method is the same. It's kinda important since your game is only graphics at the moment. Everyone excited about it is because of the nice visuals, since you don't really have any fun gameplay yet. Well what can I say, that image looks bloody nice. So kudos to LizardHeim?  Tongue

Actually green, I've been working really hard on gameplay for about a month. Art doesn't take that long, and is not 60% of the game (which is how much the devlog says).

Retro pixel art has a way of getting to me. Its done well here at any rate.

Maybe I just like how it allows the mind to "fill in the blanks" with all the little details.

Sorry for the REALLY long break between updates.
I have some bad news.  Angry
My PC broke. It still "works", but I can't get it past the bios screens.
All the files for the game are safe, and I can still work on it once the computer is back up and running, but all my back ups are on the one hard drive, and it'll be a long wait until progress can resume.
Thank you for your guys's CONSTANT support and feedback, I can't express the coolness of how you all are. Smiley
Work will resume AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I promise.
