My game Rusty Robot Wants to Cry is a platformer where a road roller robot rolls out the legendary arcade games: side-scrollers, Arkanoid, Xonix, Digger, Snake, etc.
Let me tell you how I've made block breaking mechanics in the platformer. Here is gameplay video:
- A green ball flies out every few seconds. It cannot break blocks.
- The ball turns red if you beat it off with the platform. Red balls can destroys the upper obstacles, which turn into a path to the exit.
- The robot can run wherever it wants, but if it comes to the central zone, the platform will start to follow him.
- Balls can also fly everywhere. If the robot is not protected by the platform, then they may break him.
- You can ride on the platform itself but it's difficult. Here is my wife trying to collect extra stars in this way:
