VERBIVORE

Eat letters. Make words. Play Verbivore!

A game based on the classic Snake combined with letters to make a word game. I have been working on this for about a year; I expect to release by the end of November.
I will be posting dev log updates here as well as on Twitter at: https://twitter.com/charactory.

Design principles, in order of decreasing importance:

-  Smoothness. Transitions from one state to another should be seamless.
- Typography. Lettering is very important in the game, and especial care has been taken to make it legible, beautiful yet simple.
- A 'big', fat snake. Think anacondas, not angel hair pasta.
- A limited but effective colour palette. Verbivore does not eschew colour, but it is not a colourful game per se.

In-game. The paragraph marks, when eaten, will let the snake digest formed words, which will cause it to shrink to fit the remaining letters.

A video showing the latest work I've done on the snake growth animation:

This morning, I've been tinkering with adding grid lines, to better enable the player to gauge when the snake would move. Here is a screenshot with horizontal lines, akin to notebook paper:

And here I have used crosses at the intersections:
