Some of the raddest effects I’ve seen in actionscript have been done with displacement maps. I put together a couple experiments on the subject as well as a brief explanation on how they work. All my source code is included and any and all comments are more than appreciated. If you do end up making something awesome using my code be sure to post a link, I’d love to see it!

Looks interesting.

I'd be curious to know how this would affect performance if used on an actual game, I don't think I've seen any so far that use displacement maps.

it reminds me of that windows blackhole screensaver.

I bet it could be used for a bouncy platform game or something

I feel like I'm repeatedly tooting my own horn but I used displacement maps in a game here. The framerate is still pretty serviceable

Nothing wrong with tooting your horn if it provides a good example of what's being discussed. Beer!

Very nice use of displacement maps there, and yeah, the impact on performance seems to be negligible.

Oh, very nice! I wasn't aware of displacement filters. I can see its uses for cool stuff.
