Hello,

I come here to look for advice. I have many ideas and want to make them into reality. Creating a video game is not a small task. In the past, it required special equipment and a decent amount of programming knowledge. However, when I search on the internet, I discover that there are some game creation softwares for making game. I have two questions:

a. Can you give me some comments on these game creation softwares?

b  Which one is suitable for beginners?

These are what I discover:

1. Bennu

2. IG Maker
http://www.rpgmakerweb.com/product.html?prod=ig

3. Game Editor

10. Wintermute

I'm not sure if this is the right section to be posting this in, but anyway...

Game Maker is quite popular and beginner-friendly. I've also heard of people using Construct and Multimedia Fusion (though the latter costs several hundred dollars).
For 3D games, there's Unity, though it requires some programming to get into.
By the way, most of this same information can be found a few topics below yours in the same section of the forum, in this topic.

If you're looking to get into game-making as a beginner, I personally would recommend Game Maker. Later it would be good to learn some programming if you haven't already.

In addition to any information someone might have on the engines themselves, I'd be interested in noteworthy games made in these engines. I don't know much about any of these engines but I have a few bits of information:

Ren'Py
From what I have heard this is a pretty good engine. It's geared for visual novels / text games. Digital: A Love Story was made in this.

IG Maker
There was not much information I could find on this engine while researching it a long while back, there's not much of a community for it from what I saw and when I did hear mentions of it there were a lot of complaints. The big feature seemed top be the ability to export games to other platforms (ie. flash, xbox) but I don't know anyone other than the developer of the engine who has done this:

http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/SPACE-MILKMAN/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d8025855035e

This seems like a bizarre maker, because it seems to be too hard to use for beginners, and too cumbersome for experienced developers. I haven't used the maker myself, so I have no personal opinion on it other than what I heard.

Sphere
All I know is that Sphere has been around for a really long time. I have seen some Sphere projects occasionally, and there's some really cool stuff, but I've never heard of a stand out full Sphere game. So I've either never heard of such a game, I'm unaware a cool game I know about was made in Sphere, or they don't exist.

001 Game Creator
Know next to nothing about this other than it has a lot of unique features in it you wouldn't typically see in other makers.

Wow all those are fairly obscure, so my first advice would be to test out the established things such as game maker or construct.
The only one from the list that I have tried and I can safely say that it is total shit. It's hrrible. First the demo is sthg like 400 megabytes and when finished you realize that most of this is taken by the music folder which is filled with crap songs.

Then you try the language and you realize that you can't do nothing much than click a few buttons and sliders and so the "games" are fairly stereotyped. for example the only platform games you can make are mario clones, nothing more complex than that.
also: the doc is in engrish and if you take a look at the youtube tutorials, everything is very complex, just making an animated sprite is crazy work.
It can suposedly publish to Xbox and Flash, but really, it's not worth it.

Honestly all the editors on your list look a bit lame.

[EDIT] Z-game editor is good for procedurally generated games and very small games.
There are a few Z-editor games released on TIGsource I think, check the PCG compo.
Renpy is good for visual novel type of games.
And 3D RAD I think, is a bit obsolete.

Hello, thank you. Your post is in detail!!

I learn a lot about Ren'Py,  IG Maker, Sphere and 001 Game Creator from your post! Thanks a lot. I think that I will consider Ren'Py...yes!!! I will avoid IG Maker.
