When the bob-omb flashes red and swells up and down, he is actually absorbing air through his pores and into his body. The reason he swells is because of all the air filling up his insides. But then the air becomes compressed so he shrinks back down again. This process is repeated several times until the air reaches an extremely high level of compression. When the bob-omb expels the air all at once, it creates the explosion that we know and love. However, since all the force of the blast is directed outward through the pores, the bob-omb does not suffer any damage himself.

Then explain me what you think is so bad about this movie. I think it's a great interpretation of the original Super Mario thing.

I have a question. Yoshi is kind of played as a friend to Mario these days -- they go out and play golf or ride go-karts or whatever -- but nonetheless Mario keeps a saddle on the poor thing even to this day, as if to say to him that no matter how close they come he is still a slave.
Why can this poor creature not be given freedom from the chains of oppression?

They both kind of look like sentient mushrooms.

Am I the only one who had no idea the goomba was supposed to be a mushroom? Also, how is Mario able to stand on those clouds? I'd hate to be there when it rains...

The goomba *isn't* a mushroom. It's a chestnut.

In that case, the Yoshi were most likely already enslaved by that time, probably by Kamek, who they are rebelling against in the game -- and yet, although he has befriended them, Mario has yet to set them free (possibly he uses them in sweatshops, but they are afraid to speak out, instead keeping up the appearance of friendship?).

That's not a saddle. Yoshi just have a naturally occuring brown lump in the middle of their backs.
The boots are the thing I can't explain.
-SirNiko
Edit: On closer inspection, it really looks more like a malformed shell than a saddle. Possibly they are distant relatives of the koopa???

Kamek seems to have a dangerous level of political power, wouldn't you think? He's a pretty minor character for someone who's essentially responsible for the power and entire genesis of Bowser's empire.
Also, for some reason he always struck me as looking female.

Kamek is a guy?! Apparently I am not a very good judge of video game character.

If you've played Super Mario World on the SNES, you've probably seen that Yoshi comes with shoes and a saddle/skin/shell thing on it's back fresh out of an egg.
