This is my first post on the TIGSource forums - hello. Smiley

I just finished my game The Love Letter in time for Valentine's Day, and I was hoping you could check it out and let me know what you think!

It's a little five-minute game I made with knivel (I did the code, he did the art) for the Ludum Dare #22 game jam in December, and people seemed to like it so we polished it up (and made it actually possible to win, hehe) and now we're putting it out there again! Grin

If you're curious, you can see my Ludum Dare posts here:
http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/author/axcho/

Anyway, it's a pretty simple game, but it was a lot of fun to make, and already we've been getting a lot of suggestions on how to elaborate on it. So we're interested in hearing your ideas!

Oh, and we made the game in Flixel [<3] and I came up with a couple of very handy plugins that I'm planning to release - an extension to FlxTilemap that allows for loading map data from images where different colors correspond to different tiles *and* with support for autotiling at the same time, and more interestingly, a scripting system that makes it easy to make interactive cutscenes (or even more in-depth stuff) like we used in The Love Letter.

Sound interesting? Let me know if any of you guys want to hear more about it. Smiley I think it would be great to put this up on GitHub... maybe even release the entire game source so people can steal mod it and learn from it. I put a lot of time into keeping the code clean and elegant so I want to make sure it gets appreciated, hehe. Tongue

Anyway, thanks for checking out the game - I hope you like it! Smiley

Cheesy, but kinda works Smiley  Didn't like having to wait 10 seconds of an advertisement to play the game.

Oh yeah, sorry about the ads. I'm not deluded enough to believe that I'll actually make money off of this thing - it's just that Mochi is hosting the SWF. I'll see if I can disable them or at least tone them down a bit...

Update:
Okay, I think I got rid of the ads! Let me know if they're still there for you or not. Smiley

Fun and sweet.

Thanks! Grin Just curious - are the ads still showing up? Or was your playing experience ad-free? Not sure whether I succeeded in disabling them...

I didn't notice any ad. Although, I have to mention that when I click the company logo(?) with the samurai girl(?), it opens the logo in a new window.
It's confusing, because it looks like it opens another instance of the game, but it's only the logo.
My intention in clicking the logo is to skip it, because it seems to delay on it quite a bit. I am not entirely sure what's going on there.

Okay, good to know. The logo intro shouldn't be more than a few seconds, so I don't know if something is making it take longer than it should... But yeah, it could be confusing because right now it goes to a website that is empty except for just another animation of the logo. Tongue

Better than an obnoxious TV commercial though, at least. Smiley

It doesn't look like a website, it just seems as if it either loaded a gif with the logo or created another instance of the game. Very confusing.

I enjoyed it - I think the mouse control would've benefited a lot from some pathfinding, as it was easy to drag the kid into a corner when I really wanted him to zip around it. Then again, that's part of the mechanic, so I totally understand if you disagree with me.

Great idea, nice look, cute game!

Very good presentation, fun gameplay, fun writing. Great job!
I agree with FinalSin regarding the controls and that's my only concern.

Loved and tweeted <3

Thanks! Smiley That's a good idea about pathfinding for the player - it wouldn't be too hard to do, since we're already doing that for the other students...

No bugs so far?

Okay, I updated the game with automatic pathfinding for the player! Smiley

If you put your mouse on the other side of a building, he'll walk around it. No more getting stuck on corners! (hopefully)

Try it and let me know what you think - better, worse?
http://axcho.com/theloveletter/

Also added optional keyboard controls too - arrow keys and space bar, or WASD and enter. Hope you like it. Wink

Just wanted to let you know that I put The Love Letter on Kongregate! With high scores.

If all goes well, I'll put it on Newgrounds too. Wink
