Yeaaaaaah but. An unrealized mockup is like that legendary mountain in the distance, you'll never reach it so it seems all-the-more-mythical. A mockup creates a complete videogame experience in your mind, without all the irritating work for the creator that making a game would normally take.
And this mountain of a game will never, ever disappoint, save one small feature: it doesn't actually exist.
But does that matter?

I'm actually in the exact same boat as Mr. Psysal here. I love mockups almost more than I love games, because my imagination fills in the gaps and creates these wonderful gameplay experiences in my head, and they're far more mythical and fantastic to me. It's sort of like how I felt when I watched Andy's awesome , showing footage of a whole bunch of incompleted games that will never see the light of day. I had more fun watching and listening to this video than I do playing most games. I also got a couple game ideas of my own while watching it

Agreed. Haha, I thought I was the only one. Personally, I think its because I was always reading videogames magazines as a little kid, long before I had any games of my own. I had to piece together the games from little snippets; reviews, previews, commercials, etc. Now as an adult I've tried a lot of those games, and of course they don't live up to what I imagined at all.

I'm kind of like that, but also kind of the opposite: I see a lot of mockups as possible experiences that will never be completed because they are mockups... sort of like finding a page in a sketchbook with half of a really interesting drawing. They are interesting and thought-provoking, but kind of sad. I say all of this, of course, as I work on a mockup right now

Despite probably never seeing the light of day as a game or even a prototype, mockups are very inspiring. Game developers can have lots of ideas from looking at awesome mockups and trying to figure out the gameplay from them. It's a little sad that the game you see will not be made, but beautiful that they will help other games be made.

that reminds me, you remember when someone posted mockups and people had to figure out gameplay to go along with them a while ago? the origins of the now-forgotten Giant Naked Man and a space thing. We should do that again. That was enjoyable.

HANGEDMAN used Detail! Wild HUD became detailed! HANGEDMAN used Sketchy Background! It was not very effective...

That debate game is one of the best things I have ever seen. I made this for the pixeljoint underwater mockup competition.

Wow I really like that, it's very cool/original looking. I think a couple of the lines and edges smoothed out could improve it lots, but the colours and style are great.
