He does look a bit angry with that helmet. The helmets are like theatre masks, allowing him to show emotions.

Earlier he always showed the same smile whether he was picking flowers or going berserk with an axe.

Hahaha I love that expression of fury and glee!

This is true, and a really cool aspect IMO. I wonder if it would be possible to actually make it an integrated part of the game somehow?

I read "Moon Moth" a while back, written by Jack Vance, and turned into a short graphic novel by some dude. Everyone in this city wears masks, that indicate each person's cultural/societal/hierarchical value. I always wanted to make a game with a similar concept, but I don't think Moonman is it. However, each wearable will give MM some perk. The skull one might let him see ghosts, for example.

Update: Got the fire looking more or less consistent across its different forms (torch, flaming staff, in-world fire). Fixed a few little guys, start adding the basic different laser types. Here's two more staffs in action.

is the lasers going to differ based on what mask MMs wearing? i think that would be pretty awesome. like if you had a head that looked like a medusa head, for example, the staff and laser would change to turn enemys to stone.

It's an interesting idea. Not sure if I'm up for it in this game, but I think having cross-item effects/buffs could be an interesting gameplay mechanic. As you say, wearing a mask to change the power of the staff you're wielding, or becoming 'charged' if you wear furr boots and a metal hat. Would love to see this in a small RL.

Cool. The building staff looks very useful. I wonder what the dark beam will do? Spawning black flames? Or just killing stuff?

BTW, can you imagine trying to aim a weapon like that IRL? WTF

Wow, the effect the staffs have on connecting your character to the sandbox aspect is awesome. A small particle effect or something to bring the laser beams to life will put the icing on the cake.

Update: The staff stays more or less vertical now which helps with aiming (thx for pointing that out @Rusk). Modified the staff to use the particle system. Here's the fire one, the others use different colours. The chaos/skull one uses purple particles and a black background beam.

I actually really liked the beams.
I mean particles are nice and all but now it's just a flamethrower on a stick.

Lovin' the cool staffs! How about a lightning staff? It could chain damage multiple creatures at once? That would be a cool staff.  Coffee

I appreciate the running irony gag since the beginning of this project

Green guy? check
ominous moon? check
Wearing mask? check
MM? check

Update: Added a bunch of new weapons and updated the designs of old ones. The staffs (at the end) are now more ornamental. There's also a 'great' class of weapons, which are the bigger and slower swords, hammers, etc. Did other misc things.

And yep Majora's Mask, I really have to play that game one day, as I've had a lot of 'MM makes me think of MM..'. Smiley

Are all of these craftable or just treasure? I can't imagine that crappy stone one being treasure...  Undecided

I love how vastly different the weapons are!

@hm thx Smiley

@lemon Both. MM will only be able to make simple items, like torches, but NPCs in the world have the ability to make complex things, like the jade great hammer, if supplied with enough resources.

Update: Added some egg objects, some of them will explode into poison clouds when hit. Added some visual stuff, like a 'contrast' slider. Worked on some more sprites, like internal doors (which will connect regions to sub-regions, e.g., connect a forest to a small house), and crates. Seeya! : )
