Oh man, it's like finding your Christmas presents in November. I'm going to wait until 30th August. (Downloading now...) I'm bored.... so I'm gonna release Knytt Stories in 10 minutes
Mercurial caprice... Why does it always turn up when I least expect it? :D

News flash: Tom Waits and Sinatra, both gay!
However, Danielson and Sufjan Stevens are still okay.

Sorry....but off topic still....I love the fact that there are little parentheses to gauge the gayness of the band or musician: Elton John (really gay) Ted Nugent (loincloth) Morrissey (questionable) Oh man, do those Westboro Baptist Church people crack me up.... btw, just downloaded Knytt Stories...I hope it is as good as everyone is saying

Having actually played through the game's official story (only found two secret keys so far though) I found that it was a very good game like expected, but it had a different focus than Knytt with the slightly shorter, more streamlined experience (very easy to find one power-up after the other without much spelunking) with a greater focus on avoiding hazards and enemies. I still feel, however, that a more ambient, Knytt-like experience would have been better, but that's just personal opinion.

Not sure how I feel about this really. I've played through The Machine. Seems to have lost some of the original's exploration and atmosphere, and the "it's too easy" complaints have been addressed by adding annoying enemies with random movement/firing patterns that take more luck than skill to get past sometimes. Some of the other levels were quite nice, the Unfinished Level one and Sky Flower were something a bit different. I'm feeling a bit over-knytted now though

I enjoyed the shit out of Knytt, and I really like the update and the fact that it has a slightly different feel instead of just being a complete Knytt remake, but I do have one problem:
Why no customizable power-ups? It kind of seems like every 'story' is reduced to an identical or similar gameplay scenario where you accrue the same powers in largely the same order to solve the same puzzles. Sure, some of the supplied adventures leave out the umbrella, or the climbing, or give you the running bonus first or later, but largely you are picking up the same items to open up the same sorts of areas. I think a lot could have been done to eradicate the feeling of sameness if different adventures could feature different kinds of power-ups.
That said, the game looks really pretty, plays nicely, and the music and sound are totally awesome. The Machine is just brilliantly designed, and the additional adventures I've looked at from the official expansion have all been pretty fun: Sky Flower was quite pretty, and the Unfinished Level made me laugh a few times.

Unfinished Level is like a blueprint of the game design process.

That level was really cool, I really liked it. I almost didn't even play it because I actually thought it was going to be unfinished. An Underwater Adventure is also pretty fun, pretty hard though. I think this is a great upgrade from the original Knytt, but it definitely would improve a lot from having customizable power-ups, like I Like Cake said, just so all the different games don't seem so similar.

Underwater Adventure was actually pretty spooky. It's amazing how Nifflas is capable of getting that kind of atmosphere across with so simple graphics and effects. I say he's a genius. Or maybe Jesus. Or both. By the way, how many of you got the The Machine's secret ending?

By the way, how many of you got the The Machine's secret ending? I did! Can't say it really rewarded the effort involved to get it. But never mind. I think the engine could've done with better cutscenes rather than just a series of pictures. The underwater lab was indeed quite nice.

I think the more pixel-crazed among us could take a note from Nifflas' use of gradients.

By the way, how many of you got the The Machine's secret ending? No way, there was a secret ending!? I was going to replay The Machine eventually anyway, but now I have an excuse to do it now! But yeah, I honestly could never get completely into Knytt but Knytt Stories is rocking my world.
