I've been doing a lot of sweeping changes to the style of art in my game and I've gotten to another point where I've kind of lost my objectivity about it and could use some outside opinions on how it looks.

I'm using Spine to create articulated 2D animations, which is an absolute must for me because the game focuses heavily on getting new equipment, and that equipment showing up on the character (with a lot of animations).  But I'm just not sure if it has the kind of "pop" that I'm looking for.

Any input is really appreciated, I've redesigned the visual style of this game about 5 times so far.

are you going to do some kind of cel shader on the backgrounds? the character looks good, but doesn't look like he belongs in that world

I was thinking of making an outline shader for the backgrounds as well, and that definitely validates that idea.  Thanks for the feedback.
