So im working on the first ever game im actually  putting some effort Its called Q's Quest

its a game about a little cube that on its way home the path gets blocked, so it has to take a massive detour.
Its going to be just a simple yet challenging platformer featuring:
- 8 worlds with 3 levels and a boss
- Challenging levels
- Powerups that help you defeat enemies and advance through levels
- Awesome Boss fights
- Geometrical Shapes!

here is a Gif of how it plays (i dunno why its really sped up though...)

Alright, Time for Update 1!
so one of the important gameplay elements is throwing stuff

You grab things automatically


You can also leave them if you press DOWN


By pressing X you throw in front of you, you can also hold UP to launch them upwards, diferent objects will have diferent properties like going further or bouncing more.



Finally you can Double Jump by pressing Z twice while holding an item, doing so will launch the item directly down, some things may do diferent stuff.



Another gameplay element are PowerUps!
They will help you to defeat enemies and traverse the levels.
here are some that i worked on.

Heart
it just serves as an additional hit, you can take one hit without power ups so it will help you survive a little longer, you can laso have a heart and any other powerup at the same time.


Boomerang
with this one you can throw two boomerangs, you cant throw more unless they leave the screen, you can hold UP or Down to launch them up in that direction, you can hit enemies behind  you if you jump and can be useful to hit wall switches that are high up or down.


Those are all the powerups for now, more to come later.


Now World 1!
The Forest


the forest serves as an introduction to the game, it is the easiest and shortest world.
the enemies that you'll encounter will be:

Snails

They dont really do anything the are used primarily to use their shells for breaking blocks, giving you a boost or defeating enemies.


Mosquitos

Mosquitos dont do anything either you just use them as springs, they dont do damage unless you walk directly towards them and dont jump.


Grubs

Grubs can actually damage you, they are the equivalent of goombas from the Mario series, you just jump on them.


Beetles

One of the more dangerous enemies, they take more hits and will try to rush you, they glow blue when they are about to attack, you can't damage them while in this state.


and lastly Spitters


They launch a nasty bile from a distance and in an arc, they will hide in the ground and appear a little later to attack again, like the beetles they take more hits but they are less dangerous than they seem, keep your distance just attack them when they appear, they will keep hiding.

Aaa, this looks fun! Although it's pixelated, the art style for this game reminds me a lot of Super Paper Mario. I really love it.

Update 2!
Today's update will be about somethings else than gameplay:
Worlds and Music!

But first a look at the new title screen.
Added a little more life to it.

There will be 3 options.

you have to unlock them first.


Worlds
As mentioned in the first post there will be 8 worlds, 3 levels and a boss each, i will admit that the first 4 worlds may be generic themed, however i'll do my best to make each level unique, after the 4th world things get very interesting, i wont spoil tho.

Funny! ... i think

Music
so about music and sound.
Sfx are nothing special they are all from bfxr.
however Music,
well first i have to said im impressed that quite the number of people offered themeselves to make the music, i have to give them an apology because most of the music its already done.

Anyway for the music one must think that it would be retro-like, however i dont see this game as "retro", sure it is a platformer and has simple pixel art but with the music i wanted to evoke an unique feel to the game, all the level pieces are fit to the theme of the world, all have the same instruments except for 1 or 2 in each song, level songs are tranquil and boss songs are quite imposing, and thats what i wanted, i play the paino so the main melodies are mostly piano, anyway here are some of the pieces, these are the levels for the first 4 worlds, map music and the first boss, no main theme yet, it isnt ready.

Feedback is encouraged!

Update 3!

worked on some new poweups

Yo-yo
Blatantly ripped  Obviously inspired by kirby's super star yo-yo ability.
you use it with X to attack from a distance, you can use UP or Down for diferent directions, with it you will also "grapple" into objects like hooks or cables.



Ice
A rush attack, you tackle enemies in a direction with X, you are invincible while tackling, when rushing you can jump and it will give you an enourmous boost allowing you to reach very far places and speed through levels, finally if you hold DOWN and press X you will launch a snow wave, you can only do it while in ground and once. (this last move may be overpowered and possibly removed)



Finally Firecracker
You launch a firecracker in an arc and short distance, you can launch only one until it explodes, if you jump it may get further, holding UP and then X launches it directly above, you can use this as an advantage for some enemies, if you hold DOWN and press X while jumping you will throw it in a downward angle, this is the only power up (For now) that deals more damage than the others, if you dont have any item to break blocks you can use the powerup for it.

i've finished the 3 levels of the first World and started work on the Boss
im excited to show it soon!

Thank you, the kirby games are some of my favorites they were an inspiration for the powerups.

Been a while since i posted any update, schools taking me hostage.
but heres something.
Ingame cutscenes, except no actual cutscnes how exciting!
its a WIP, it will be fully animated but it will take a while.
for now enjoy the crude looking drawings and sped up gif that i cant resolve.
