A bit of a necro, but a lot of PlayN action recently.

PlayN now supports iOS, they just released 1.3.

Eclipse is just as awful as always, and im so sick of dealing with it, so I've made the switch completely to NetBeans, for which I've written this guide.

If you didn't check it out before, you should take another look.

This sounds interesting, but like most people I also hate eclipse.
I like Intellij Idea, but might try netbeans because of the tutorial posted above.

I use Eclipse every day and usually it works quite fine (some thing are buggy, some features are amazing). The crazy setup process for PlayN is beyond what is normal for Eclipse, so don't judge Eclipse based on what PlayN requires you to do.

But yes, agh, I should make another setup attempt for PlayN.

Actually that is the root problem.

It's not really Eclipses fault, it's Google.  Their stuff is fragile as hell and causes all kinds of problems.  You need to use an EXACT version of the ADT or X breaks, which relies on Y which uses a different version of the ADT.  FUN FUN FUN

And... PlayN relies on GWT and android tools, which means you have 3 Google dependencies... good luck with that!

Oh, and Maven sucks, or more specifically m2e.

I now have had some time to work with this and I have to say that it's pretty great. The cross platform implementation is pretty good, everything looks and functions exactly the same on each platform. But it's also pretty easy to write platform specific implementations.

I have a free ios and android license for unity, but I think I prefer this when writing 2d games  Cool
