When I see Soviet art and architecture, I almost become communist. Shit's cool.

What I find interesting in Soviet's space race is that the whole thing was essentially ran by one guy Sergei Korolev. Things started to go downhill when he died. And about the architecture in nowadays:

When that particular instance was pointed out on another forum I post on, a few people leapt to his defense, propping him up as some unfortunate Mr. Magoo-like character who keeps accidentally hanging out with those big mean old racists trying to tarnish his good name.

I don't understand how his associations make him an "insane racist." Paul is driven by very deep rooted ideological beliefs which include, for better or for worse, letting racists be racists. I'd say his willingness to communicate with neo-Nazis is an example of his consistency as a person more than anything else.
(I'll be voting for Obama because he's the only one who understands what needs to change about higher education right now)

there's still the issue of the newsletters, and its been made pretty clear that he definitely knew what he was doing with them. in the late 90's, he was asked to defend them, and instead of saying "i didn't read them" like he is now, he actually embarked to defend them, perfectly aware of what was written. a recent ex-aide of his has also suggested that Paul did proof-read the letters, which is semi-troubling but i'm not sure how much worth i would put in an ex-aide. http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2011/12/27/395391/fact-check-ron-paul-personally-defended-racist-newsletters/

even if he were a kkk member, he'd still be leagues better than any other candidate (including obama) since he's against war, for pardoning everyone in jail who was found guilty of a non-violent drug crime, for ending torture and wireless wiretapping, raiding the debt by more than 10% of the debt per year (for the first time our national debt now exceeds our national GDP -- the US owes more money than the sum total of wealth in the US) it's like, who would you rather have: an obama that continues the things i listed above, or a racist who ends them? is secret racism in the mind (or hanging out with racists or thinking racists have the right to be racist) such an evil that it's worse all those actual real terrible things? goog, i think i linked you to this before, but you should re-read it (or read it if you haven't): http://www.salon.com/2011/12/31/progressives_and_the_ron_paul_fallacies/ -- i'd also recommend it for everyone else, it's a great article by a socialist-progressive about how RP is a better progressive than obama (not that i'm supporting RP, since i don't think government can be changed through politicians. the only way to change the system is an internal revolution where people no longer need the government, by living outside it and beside it, forming self-sustaining societies that operate apart from it (much like the amish, but with technology). but his candidacy does spread some good ideas anyway)

This is mostly illegal. So, erm. Ron Paul as president isn't such a bad way to get that turned around a bit though.

if you only do legal things, you can never change the legal system. civil rights is a great example of that, as is the more recent arab springs / occupy wall street (or going further back, gandhi's nonviolent resistance which freed india). if you don't have the courage to break the law, the law will break you
it has to be done as a mass action though, i'm not saying to unilaterally (like the unibomber) just go about breaking laws as you please. it has to be done with a large group, or it won't matter. since the state can arrest and destroy individuals, but the larger the number, the harder it is to arrest everyone
that said living on a self-sustaining farm and having no contact with the government, and making everything you need rather than buying it from corporations, and living without money and just on a barter system of trading with others, are all still perfectly legal (and is already being done by thousands of people)

They still pay property taxes and other taxes though... But that probably doesn't bother them much.
