Kickstarter's been around a few years, it's not so much a fad as it's gotten far more attention from the general public due to the success of some of the bigger name projects-- not even just the videogame related ones. So if you think it's a hype-machine fad just because it's popular enough that you've heard of it, that's a silly way to look at things. |

I've been on Tigsource for 5 years now, on the internet for much longer, I've seen my share of fads and the people defending them like they were the new coming of christ .
I think kickstarter will peter out of existence because this economic model can not sustain itself without hype. And hype obligatorily creates hate and disgust, with time.

I am the programmer and artist for all my games, but I need funds for other things, such as an amazingly moody sound track, level designs, legal/business fees, a fantastic website and trailer to really show it off, and the all important advertising/marketing. 10k? Christ... You can make a fantastic trailer for free. You can get a fantastic website up and running for a modest fee. Legal and business fees? Which ones? Only thing hard is the music that can indeed get expensive. High pledges like these just give me the urge to *not* contribute. Your game looks really cool, but 10k to produce it? Damn. |

Alright, what do y'all think of THIS? I am undecided. I already kicked in $130. (want two controllers) But I don't know how much more attention this project needs. They hit their goal first day, and have already tripled their original projection. (with another 27 days to go) I'd say mission accomplished there. Kick in some money if you are sure you would want one of these Ouya boxes, but otherwise I don't see them hurting for funds. |
