Are there any programs to convert a sprite strip into a GIF?
I found several programs to do the opposite, but none for that.

I'd do it with game maker, but version 8 can't save to gif anymore.  Crazy

How many do you need because I have GM7 and could do a few.

If you have access to a registered copy of GraphicsGale, then it can do the job (File -> Import from combined image).
It's a lesser-known feature that goes relatively unused (at least in my experience).

And as Sean A. mentioned, GameMaker 7 can, though it always seems to corrupt the palette table on export.

Woefully, both of these programs are not free.

But insanely useful when you're a dipshit that constantly overwrite important files  Hand Point RightWell, hello there!Hand Point Left
If it's just a couple files that you need converted I or someone else with Graphicsgale could do it for you, Jakman.

If I had to do this I would probably use Python + PIL to turn the sprite sheet into a series of still images, then use imagemagick or that one mac drag and drop program (GIFfun, I think...? I don't remember) to turn that into an animated GIF. Python PIL is INCREDIBLY easy and pleasant to use and someone familiar with Python could probably create you a reusable "cut up sprite sheet into a series of images" script in short order, but oddly PIL can't create animated GIFs by itself.

But just asking Inane to do the conversion for you might be a better idea if you've just got the one file to do.

Ah, I already got Sean A to do what I needed. Thanks, though. Smiley

It's kind of a shame that so few programs can do this. Ah well!

It is possible to create animated gif with photoshop if you have
frames in form of individual files named like frame001, frame002 etc.

I made this little app a while ago to play a sprite strip, it's pretty limited (bmp only, single strip) though and doesn't export, when you click open file the top textbox is the sprite strip name and the bottom is the number of frames (which it works out the width of each frame from, it's not width because it's easier to just count the number of frames by eye). Also textbox caret controls: u,d,l,r,home, end, tab, del & backspace (because a friend didn't even realize you could edit the text Facepalm)

I saw this thread a while ago and planned to update the app before posting to make it less limiting ...buuut I'm lazy. Though I will probably update it soon.
