I can't believe this is actually happening. The Megaman series is finally getting a sequel without any suffixes - and it's in classic 8bit style. What do you think - should they aim for traditional gameplay from the NES era or should it be modernized? I hope this will find followers and we will see more true sequels to old series. (True Metroid 1 sequel please ) Here's more: http://blue-bomber.jvmwriter.org/community/index.php?showtopic=1505

I would rather take a new Mega Man X game, but oh well. Anything with "Mega Man" in the title is sweet anyway (as long as its not Battle Network ) Well, if they take the slide and the ability to charge the buster from me....

I'll be reading the link, but so far it seems too good to be true.
Then again, if Limbo of the Lost is possible, WHAT ISN'T?

That website won't load for me, but maybe Kotaku could possibly be just reliable enough. So... That's a damn brave and commendable move, Nintendo. I've never been a Mega Man fan, but still... I wish there were more companies out there that still gave a shit about their video games being fun (instead of just as fucking shiny as possible. NO, THAT'S NOT ENOUGH BLOOM!). Can't wait to hear what Crysis players think :D

I wonder if they've added any flair to the graphics at all, or just how much advantage they're taking of modern tech:how loyal they're being to the original limitations.
Cool, though. Like Kao said, never been much a fan of MegaMan, but definitely cool.

Yeah, I just saw this on Kotaku earlier today. I have been waiting for them to release the NES and SNES games on the virtual console but this is much more exciting news. I have been wanting to see a new Mega Man game with the classic Mega Man. Sadly, I won't have a Wii for much longer But I do have friends that do :D

Seriously. Anybody else thinks this is a nod to the indie-retro community that we know so well around here?

Blalgfgagfgarfgff!
I hope they take the Dwarf Fortress approach, spending all the time on gameplay rather than art asset/story.
I'd like to see something like Megaman 1 but with maybe an artificial 5-7 colors per sprite restriction. 4(3) is just too low and looks a bit cheap. I think Megaman cheated by overlaying sprites so he has one extra color. In the later games there was some nice enemy designs (I've printed out every single NES/GB sprite). However, the gameplay felt a bit flimsy, like someone was holding up random stencil colored cardboard cutouts for you to shoot. It didn't matter how they were styled, you just didn't care about them. The sprites felt soulless despite some good designs. One thing that could be done to remedy that is to add some diversity to the behaviors and have reoccurring enemies with variations so they feel like they're apart of a coherent force.
The Energy, Points and Health pellets from the first game are the best I think. I always disliked the ones they made for the sequel.
My big wet dream is to make a large persistent Megaman world and just populate it with actors, then throw Megaman into the middle of it. Imagine little factories pumping out the helicoper faces, columns of Sniper Joes marching out to victory, etc. Been working on that idea for a while but never got anything up online. Maybe it's time.

I'm kind of ambivalent toward this, but I've never been a big fan of Megaman. At the very least, it's got to be better than the particle-blasting 3D style of X8.

I actually would've preferred it if they went with the style of Megaman 8, but seeing an 8-bit game as a new commercial release is certainly something.
