Zelda 64/ Ocarina of Time's music is remarkable, in a league of it's own. There are large sections of the game that the music carries the mood and the game would not have been loved as much without it I think.

I believe that is only situation where actual soundtrack/score has had some true value for the game itself. I believe that makes it my favorite game soundtrack, but it is not necessarily my favorite game music in general.
Sure I have to emphasis how I like about GTA series using diegetic soundtracks. Then it is up to what kind of music style you prefer.
