Here's my entry, One Hell of a Desert

Intense! I don't necessarily feel literal heat/hot as much as I feel the "heat of the moment". Great stuff!

I spent entirely too long on this, but I decided this time I will actually submit something! I have attempted so many of these, but anyway:

No offense intended, but I'm listening to it right now, and I'm confused how this fits into the theme for this contest.

It's in the description. It's music for what I understand as a cutscene or prologue in a game, where an older warrior tells a younger one the story of their people next to a fire.
Since we can't hear the fire, I understand your confusion  Wink

@HD
The slow chords do create a feel of epic proportions as such a story might imply. Well done on that. And the percussion fits your description well (I'm thinking Celtic warriors, right?). But, there are a couple of things you can work on:
1) At around 2:00 I think you're getting into distortion levels. Go back to your mix and try to fix the volume levels. If you want the piece to build up to that point like it does now, just lower everything before that part appropriately as well.
2) Sometimes Different instruments stop playing and are cut-off too soon for the sound you would expect from the proportions created by the long chords. Try adding a more sustaining reverb to the instruments, so the sounds die off slower.

And like PythonBlue noted, without the description it's hard to guess this is "HOT" music. There is a warm feel to it, so maybe the judge will be cool with that. Nice track regardless.

It's a matter of interpretation of the theme. There are certainly multiple ways to interpret the 'hot' theme, such as:
-literally through a mix that generates ear fatigue and a general physical discomfort,
-culturally through associations to exotic, western and perhaps romantic themes,
-physically through a dance beat/theme

I wanted to try to reach for tones that gave a 'feeling' of being complete/safe-- to try and get your body to warm itself up. True, it does maybe sound winter-y, but I was thinking about chilling inside, wrapped up in a blanket in-front of a heater, inspired by the OP "It's cold outside (at least over here in Germany), so let's heat things up a bit".

I don't mind if it's disqualified for the challenge, I made it for fun and I did have fun making it ^^

Thanks for the tips, much appreciated! :D

Ok humans here is my entry. Just a short little A/B thing with an ending. It will likely get expanded into something else later.

I don't think I'll be able to enter this one, apart from exam period I also had some family-related issues, and I'm struggling to finish another track I'm working on as of now, so I think I'll skip this one. Still, I'm going to listen to all the entries once I get some free time on my hands!

I didn't have much time for this challenge so I decided to go as exotic and oriental as I can, and even though I usually don't like it I really had fun this time, so here it goes:

http://soundcloud.com/dogacyavuz/through-the-dust

About the other tracks, holy clapsticks, they are all very varied and very, very good. Especially Leo, 8th Mode and Judah's tunes. I don't know if it's accepted for one entrant to comment on the other pieces, but I don't think I can stop listening to them any time soon. Great work everyone.

How much time do I have until this is closed?
I have something that can be submitted as is, but I would love to have a chance to expand on it a bit more.

Well done everybody. Some awesome tracks here.

Original post said 19th so I assume it's still the deadline.

Here's my actual entry. It's just a rough mix for now.

http://leoj.bandcamp.com/track/the-mystery-at-sundown

I wrote this today which was ironically the hottest day in 50 years on the east coast of Australia... Hundreds of bush fires and around 43'C.

Enjoy.

This is brilliant. Are those real vibes/bongos? Makes me miss playing in live bands.
