I guess this would be the category to post too.
I started working on a series of game dissections, trying to reduce a game or genre to its core mechanics and figuring out the strengths and untapped it holds.
This series will focus on the origins of pc gaming, explaining the basics and how to improve them. These articles will be targeted towards people new to game development to encourage them doing a simple game first before starting an mmo, and that it doesn't need to be a boring exercise to make a clone to the so-called classics of gaming. But i guess it could be useful to anyone interested in gamedev.
The first dissection is on Breakout.
http://wzl.vg/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5I will try to accompany every article with a prototype, so the next one will take a while until the breakout clone is finished.
What do you think about the article and format? Would you like to see more of this?
Hate, love, suggestions: all appreciated
