We are preparing our plan for the development of a new game and we need to do some research about other games in the genre.

Can anyone recommend one or more good websites where we would be able to research games sales etc. for other games?

There's Steamspy.com, and like two years ago Steam accidentally made it possible for a moment to determine precise owner counts of any game with achievements, the .csv file made with that data is probably still floating around on the internet somewhere.

I'll check out Steamspy - that looks promising, and then I'll see if I can find any datasets.
