I believe you need to install the Windows Japanese language pack, otherwise it won't correct recognize the file names. Installation instructions are included with the game, at least with the version I got.

Also, I found a Let's Play of the game:

That may be useful for those who can't get it to work but want to see what it's like.

English version with easy installation - http://rapidshare.com/files/106691872/Yume_Nikki_0.10_English_v3.rar.html. Worked on my Russian Windows XP without extra language packs.

Fuzz also posted a Mediafire link for it in the Yume Nikki 2 thread:

(Just in case somebody finds this thread later on and both Rapidshare links are down, the more mirrors, the better)

I watched the ending of the game on YouTube today (I never got it myself). What I found funny was that so many people were coming up with arcane interpretations of the ending, when it looked fairly straightforward to me (I won't mention what it is since that'd be a spoiler). Sometimes I kind of feel like people who make up detailed interpretations of the games or shows or movies etc. that they like might be better off putting that creative effort into a game of their own. What impressed me about Yume Nikki was that it wasn't a game that was very hard to make, technically. It used minimal art skill, minimal programming skill, minimal level design skill. But it still works, it's very personal and powerful.
