Wow. I haven't checked this thread in a couple of days. Scary stuff. Sad to see it go down like it has, there *was* an awful lot of trolling going on, so no wonder Cas reacted how he did, really.

This is a sad topic I know I'd be pretty peeved if someone made a game that obviously took a lot of inspiration from one of mine, but they didn't credit my game in the slightest. Even a little nod in the credits would be well appreciated. IIRC N Way of the Ninja thanked its inspirations in the credits, I thought that was very thoughtful and would have brought a smile to the developers of those games. Unfortunately this is no clear-cut case. Both are Space Invaders inspired. Space Mutants may or may not be a rip, it definitely looks like one from my perspective, but I'm not so sure it's 'beyond reasonable doubt'. My perspective of the issue is that Space Mutants doesn't cite ANYTHING as a source of inspiration. It could be argued that it's "obvious" that it's a Space Invaders clone, but then who is to say it's not an obvious Titan Attacks clone...? If you're going to clone Space Invaders, why not clone a modernised version of it rather than the original? So uh, developers, what have we learned from this? Cite your inspiration. It doesn't do you any harm, you're not kidding anyone if you're saying your game is 100% original and without influence. I'm pretty disappointed at some of the harsh responses to Cas in this topic, as well. Sure some of his comments were a little harsh first, but he had good reason to be angry. Replying to his comments with harsh words only worsens the situation. I don't think he should have been banned - I'm sad to see the banhammer in this case. I feel he acted fairly reasonable for a man in his situation - apart from perhaps his original comment on Kongregate, heh. Ah well, what's done is done

There was some trolling, but it wasn't that bad. And even if it was, as a developer, we just have to learn to respond maturely to others, even when they aren't paying us the same respect.

Apparently, this is a lesson a lot of us could stand to learn.

Reading this thread was like watching a train wreck in slow-mo. I just couldn't look away. We just have to learn to respond maturely to others, even when they aren't paying us the same respect.
Apparently, this is a lesson a lot of us could stand to learn. Yeah, no kidding. Even though Cas came storming in here in a fit of douchebaggery, a lot of trouble could've been averted if there wasn't so much trolling (although that doesn't give Cas any excuse for how he acted either).

Well, on the bright side, some of us newbies now know what NOT to do. It is unfortunate though that things went so badly... as Matt said, train-wreck in slo-mo. Hm. Moral of the story? Things go smoother when people act like this: ...and not like this:

This is all really unfortunate. I really enjoyed all of the games from Puppy Games that I've played, but I don't think I can view them in the same way. At least not yet. I'm sure that, in time, I'll be able to just play them and enjoy them again.

I kinda like the expression 'troll'. I'm still waiting for us to get forum 'Orc's' and 'fairies'. I'd like to be a forum fairy.

The word, or the act itself? Also, I prefer the term Ubiquitous Internet Behaviour.

I agree. I think it's a plot by sites like 4chan to reduce the English language to five words or less.

"_________, but is it newsworthy?" would be a great topic name template. That should be the default for all new threads.
