Hey!
After playing a couple of games, discussing with several people, reading and thinking, I came up with a couple of changes to the game's ruleset.
It should now be quicker (I played a couple of test games against a friend and none lasted longer than 10-25 minutes), more tense and overall more fun to play than before.
The changes are found here:

Also: It indeed is SO much more convenient to play the game with some kind of card-holder that lets you see all the cards in your stacks at all times. One way to build a simple card-holder yourself is to take two rather thin and long pieces of wood, put some cardboard in between them and then tape them in the spots that should seperate the stacks from each other. The card-board in between the two pieces of wood will make a nice slot to put the cards into.
Also: A browser-based multiplayer-version with all kinds of comfort features and simple matchmaking (by copy-pasting URLs) is underway.
Cheers!
