I've just finished creating sound effects for my game, but they lack consistency in style. Any tips on how to make them more consistent or advice for creating consistent sound effects from the start? Thanks in advance!  Well, hello there!

Ooh nice question.

What you need to be asking yourself is: What's the game about?

If your game has an established setting and a well-written story, take cues from that – or just make up your own world of sound from whatever inspires you.
The important thing is that you define it. Saxophones in a medieval fantasy setting? Allowed if you say it is!

Even a simple UI click isn't just a click. It could be twigs breaking, bells jingling, a machine beeping...
What world do your sounds live in? What kind of sound palette suits that world?

Give it a good long think – this is what will set your sound apart from anyone else's.

Then whatever you work on, ask yourself: does this suit my original vision?
Your sound will be consistent and unique without any need to force it – and your game will end up sounding better for it.
