Some of you (one or two) may remember this game as being called "Vantelegary Rising" a long time ago, well that was a working title.

I did 99.9% of the graphics and the coding for the game myself. As you might imagine, it took me quite some time to get it to where it is today, because I had to stay alive and such...

The game is a 2D arcade space shooter, and I will not bore you with the number of levels, enemies and modes since you can find that out, as well as seeing gameplay videos and screenshots, by reading the information on the game's IndieDB page:

NOTE: Turn HD on for the videos, they are quite compressed in SD, such is the way of things.

You can download the DEMO here:

I would like to hear what you think!
If you like it and would like to support the project all you have to do is spread the word... that's it.
Please consider voting in the pool and thank you for your time!

This isn't really my sort of game, but the screenshots look excellent.

I hope the sales have been good.

(Mad props to all the hard work you've done by the way.)

Well, your interface looks very pretty.

Also I like the automatic video settings, many AAA games fail at that.

But I found your controls terrible, and the gameplay... confusing, I died many times without knowing why, and just gave up.

Also the acting is very, very, very cheesy (and the story is cheesy too), I think that if you instead went over-the-top funny like Jets'n'Guns it would have been better.

But I still wish I had your art skills though.

The game is currently awaiting authorization.

Why are the controls terrible, this is the first time I hear of this...  Concerned
Have you been using a gamepad?

The only things that can kill you, other than the Boss, are the circular blades, and the mine shards (6 of them pop out of a detonating mine on low difficulty).

The small orbs recharge your secondary weapons as shown in the tutorial (which I assume you played) and try using the Shield or Shift to fire the laser or Ctrl to fire the Katana, they help a lot. (Please refer to the Encyclopedia for more info on weapons and upgrades)

Also if you are having troubles seeing what hit you (there are some flash effects) you can turn off  Extra Particles, Subsurface Blur, Volumetric Lights, Screen Shake in the options menu.

Once you learn what the dangers are and enemy weaknesses, you should have no problems surviving.

Well... I am a one-man-developer so I did my best with the story, but it did not have a high priority, sadly. There's only so much one guy can do Tired

Thanks for the feedback!  Beer!

The controls are confusing exactly because you have a excessive amount of weapons, and it is unclear what they do, and the controls change between them.

I mean, why 1, 2, 3 select some weapons, but not others?

What is the purpose of the other special weapons? The tutorial only said to me what buttons trigger them.

And the controls are bad because it is a excessive amount of buttons...

Contrast that to Radiant Silvergun, although it had 7 weapons, you could trigger any weapon you wished with only 3 buttons (mind you, it was designed for Sega controllers, that were guaranteed to have at least 3 face buttons).

In fact, I think most other ship shooters I know never have more than 3 buttons...

Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to post!

There is a difference between special abilities (the Needle Launcher), secondary weapons (Shift and Ctrl) and primary weapons. Primary weapons have no ammo limit but they overheat while secondary weapons have an ammo limit.

There are only 3 main weapons (the ones that can overheat), and 1, 2, and 3 switches between them as well as the scroll wheel. And you have Shift and Ctrl for the secondary weapons (the ones that have an energy meter).

The purpose for the secondary weapons is to put more firepower on the enemy when needed (like bosses). Also they are used in some challenges and some enemies (that are not in the demo) are more vulnerable to thous weapons.

It was a design decision I made in early development so that the player can fire 2 or more weapons at the same time... You can shoot the primary weapon (1, 2 or 3) AND the secondary weapons (Shift or Ctrl) at the same time.

I could have easily put the weapons from 1 to 5 but then how could you use two or more weapons at once? Also I would have scrapped the energy drops from the enemies that recharge the secondary weapons.

I don't know why you are under the impression there are too many buttons, they all fit on an Xbox360 controller.

The game does have more buttons that your standard ship shooter... but why is that a bad thing? Why should I copy other games? I provided players with the ability to activate their shield whenever they want, slow down time whenever they want, use drones whenever they want... you need buttons for these things, also you can play the game without using secondary weapons or shields or slow down time... I don't use everything myself, I just gave players options to play how they want.

Hope I provided relevant information. If you have any other questions or feedback please feel free to submit it. I'll do my best to answer.

Cheers!

Screens look gorgeous, definitely gonna take a look at the demo. Also "Operation Starcrusher" is probably the most bad ass game name ever.  Hand Metal Left  Panda Hand Metal Right

Demo Updated to version 1.00.4

Change-log:
Added an information system that shows basic enemy information when you first encounter a new enemy.
Added gamepad button prompts where they where missing.
Added gamepad vibration on some events I missed previously.
Added the ability to skip the Tutorial level with the gamepad button "Select" (no need to reach for the keyboard anymore).
Added the option to turn the basic enemy information system on/off in the Options menu, removing the local time option completely (since it was useless).
Changed the Mine's projectiles are no longer transparent.
Changed the frequency at which some particles calculate their trail, optimizing it by 100%.
Fixed the Mine projectiles missing sub-sprite.
