After physically rolling the Torontron to several events, might I recommend you keep things light. Additionally, ensure all the games automatically kick out to the menu screen if no user input for 1 minute. Otherwise, the public will wind up stuck in 1 game forever.
Godspeed WINNITRON 1000... GODSPEED!
p.s. Don't underestimate the importance of bitchin' side decals.

Looks pretty freakin' awesome man. I just sold my old Nintendo cabinet ( link) up in Seattle to Dragonmaw so I'm hoping he throws some indie games on there. Are you going to rock any MAME setup or anything after its all showcased at the Winnitron Jam? Also, why is your friend trying to pull the joystick out on the "It won't budge..." picture? Did the washer rust onto the shaft or something? Usually if you can get that bottom washer off with brute force, the shaft should just slide out easily... Congrats on the cab!

It got all rusted to shit, so we had to saw it off. Naw, ideally the Winnitron will get installed somewhere like Red River College, so people can keep playing it, compete for highscores, possibly even compete against people playing on another Winnitron in the future. And we'll keep making new games and adapting indie classics for it...

I've talked to my wife seriously about making a Mame cab for a local boys & girls club. You consider making the launcher program update itself over the interwebs? Would be pretty cool if it just snagged an XML file off your server with links + some basic instructions for the launcher. Then someone at the College could click an update button and automagically get all the latest indie games.

Most excellent Definitely excited to see all the jam pictures! I'll stop asking so many tech questions and let the thread continue.

I had signed up, but I don't think I'll be able to make it. I'll try to work on something from home if I can find some time.

Are there any details anywhere about how to make Winnitron-compatible games? I.e. key bindings/screen size/download requirements I'm intending to improve one of my old two-player games for the online jam.

We're going to get a doc with details up soon.
But the basic controls are:
Player 1 arrow keys b1: Z b2: X
Player2 j,k,l,i b1: N b2: M
5 is the coin door (when a coin is entered) (probably don't have to use this in your game)

I'm Winnitronning! Who else is doing this remotely, like, without being in Winnipeg?
I put together a solid start to a simple game a few weeks back, then had to abandon it temporarily to finish up IGF submission, but I'm back at it tonite. Maybe there is some chatroom we can hang out in or something, I find that to be fun when I do LD48...?
