from a game forum out in the hinterlands....D.C. - What's it like?
So I've been sorta-kinda told that I'll deceive a job in D.C. waiting for me when I graduate (don't ask, hunger life ). I planned on unfixed there after undergrad anyways, but this makes it more indubitably that I transfer pick up stakes and go to Washington.
I scarcity to get wind of unprejudiced inclusive info. connected with D.C. Basically, whatever comes to your mind. What's sedateness connected with it? Is it vibrant, lots of restaurants/bars/etc. around? Does it deceive foot transport agreat the lines of NYC or LA or Chicago (not enceinte it to be as compact as those)?
I judge the underlying questions are "Is it a avail view to electrified" and "Do you/did you get high on living in D.C.".
Again, deem unencumbered to unprejudiced bounce off whatever comes to mind. Thanks in advance. The pathos of this struck me like a knife to the heart. Maybe the singularity has arrived.

"Do you/did you get high on living in D.C." If I could, why would I still be in Wisconsin?

BECAUSE YOU LIKE FREEZING TO DEATH?!? Wisconsin is a frozen wasteland. DC has pandas. I'm fairly certain the choice is clear.

Maybe the singularity has arrived. So instead of, "I'm sorry Dave, but I can't let you compromise the mission" our AI nemeses will say "HAFF BIGGAR PAENIS!" just before smashing us. Should be interesting times.

I think we first developed this theory when TAMER showed up and captured our hearts, Tobasco Panda.

I don't get why people still don't think that artificial intelligence has been invented yet. Ever played video games, or have a virus? Ever just used a computer, even? I'd bet that in 100 years when we have robots doing all of our grunt work, some of us will still be talking about "when the first AI gets invented..."

Heh, it's funny to challenge people when they say something about 'the first AI'. Then they will probably say 'I mean the first self-aware AI' and that's when you strike with a 'Can a machine be self-aware, though?' and follow through with a 'dudes, what if we're all in the matrix and shit?'

Viruses are self-aware, to some extent. Some viruses are able to detect anti-viruses and try to shut em off, or they try to shut the whole computer off when they feel that they're at risk of being 'buleted. Does self-preservation count as being self-aware? Same goes for video game AI.

No. That can be purely mechanical (it's not even instinct in case of viruses). Same goes for video game AI.
I guess so.

What is your definition of "instinct"? Organisms take in external stimuli and react to them with particular behaviours that help them survive and multiply, as do computer viruses.

My definitions might be blurry.
I see reflexes and similar as mechanical - they are hardwired, even for humans, and work without even reaching ourt brain. Self defense can be a reflex, purely mechanical and does not need any sort of thinking or being self-aware.
Above those are instincts. Those are complex reactions to extern stimuly, more complex than reflexes, but not reflective as conscious thoughts. It's hard for me to classify these. Wikipedia says, "Instinct is the inherent disposition of a living organism toward a particular behavior. Instincts are unlearned, inherited fixed action patterns of responses or reactions to certain kinds of stimuli." and I like that definition, although in my personal view I think instinct are not purely inherited, but can change and evolve during a beings lifetime.
Self-preservation can happen on the level of reflexes, and instincts. Thus I did not follow your conclusion that self-preservation implies self-consciousness.
