I like your ideas, but the game is not much fun & the interface is hard to handle. It took me a while to figure out how to even start the game. I ended up in a boss fight, with this yellow laser from the top. The boss was hard but not interesting, I was using "mary jane" with a triple shot. If I were you, I would concentrate on improving the game feel.

I will add some guidance text in the next update to make menu navigation easier.
I'm thinking about giving bosses a few different attacks that they can do. Maybe that will help.
