i got a question about 2.5D graphics.
I'm kinda wondering what the walk cycles look like in them, and if they can just be painted instead of 3D models.

seems to just use pixel art for characters.. no photos or 3d models. You can get a good look at some walk cycles at 0:09 to 0:15.

You can see this technique in a bunch of the older first person shooters. Doom is a pretty good one to look at.

Yea, the ol'2D billboarded sprites trick. 

What's interesting about Doom's sprites is that, instead of just drawing all the guys, Adrian Carmack actually modeled some of the enemies in clay, and photographed them from different angles for the game.   John Carmack even built a tool for setting up which set of 'direction' animations the player should see for a particular angle.
