Hey y'all. Entity is a game by myself and my brother Noel Berry. It's a platform shooter, and it follows the adventure of RJS-TB_40889, a robot who crash lands on an alien planet in his expedition to find a new power source to heat Earth after the sun unexpectedly (and rapidly) begins to die, for unknown reasons. Anyway, I guess we'll be posting screenshots/mockups/maps/stuffs every now and then. Here are a couple mockups to start it off: Cheers!

Thanks for the great comments, guys! The gameplay will be similar to Cave Story, but a bit more open and more exploration-y. I'm hoping to have lots of little side-areas scattered throughout the game, with lots of little secrets and stuff. Also here's a more exciting mock-up: The trees are just placeholders until I finish all the final ones. I'm probably going to touch up some of that dirt quite a bit as well.

Looks like a nice graphical style, but you seriously need something in the background other than that blue gradient. Some clouds and landscapes would be nice. Also in that second screenshot you posted, those trees look pretty messed up.
The foreground is very nice looking, though.

It looks pretty nice so far (except trees, but you said they're placeholders). Depending on what enviroment do you wish to use for developement, I could help you with programming.

Unabashed nudge time! Guys, Liam is the brother of Noel Berry, who made Leap 4 Blue at the age of 17 and sold it for sponsorship. What I'm trying to relate to you is that this family is retarded talented, hard-working, creative, and motivated. Liam is no different from his brother in those respects, and I wholly endorse him. This woud be a good project to get on. End nudge.

I keep on hearing about these guys from Alec's Infinite Ammo Podcast. I'm pretty impressed.
Hopefully I can get a decent game out before I'm 18 too...
What language are you writing the game in?

Wow, thanks for that awesome nudge! It makes me feel so special. @John Sadoval Well, I don't really care what it's done in, as long as it can run on a Windows PC. As I said before, I'm still looking for a programmer, as I really don't know how Also, just going to give a heads up for any programmers who are thinking of offering their services: this game is big. As in, I'm hoping for 4 to 5 hours of gameplay big. Yes, I'm very ambitious. Edit: In other news, I felt like I should post another mock-up, this time of some caves:

As always, Game Maker is a pretty good solution.

For Game Maker, here's a quick example of platform engine: [link]. As other examples of working with GM, I have a couple of examples located here.

If you're only interested in Windows, then try Construct. It's practically as easy as creating your mockup.

I might check out Construct, but from what I've heard, it's simple, but somewhat limiting, isn't it? Or am I wrong in thinking that?

Construct is simple, technically not limited (much). It's just the choise, that you have to either use it's semi-drag-n-drop interface to code complex game events (and that's not very comfortable to do), or use Python for scripting (which is a thing to learn).

Can you give any other gameplay details? All I can tell from the screenshots is that is a pixel perfect collision(i think?) platformer with a guy with a gun...

Hey Liam,
I'm a programmer who's interested in getting to know some fine artists. If you've got enough design planned as you say you do, I'd be more than willing to lend a hand.
My experience lies mostly in C# programming with Unity (which I do believe could run your game pretty fine), but am open to using just about any engine, depending on what platforms you are hoping to target.
Feel free to take a look some of the work I have done with the Ludum Dare and other projects on my start-up's website. The links are in my sig.

Very much a work in progress. (Graphics seen here were a collaboration between Liam and myself)

This is looking great so far! Hope you find a good programmer (I'd offer to do it, but school takes up way too much of my time)
