In Lordran The Flow Of Time Is Distorted(tm) Also it's not exactly clear how close the flames actually are to dying, it's implied that Frampt & Gwyndolin have been pulling their whole "chosen undead" scheme for quite a while by the time you get to Lordran.

Lordran does feel 'abandoned', but that wasn't what I thought when I first encountered it. It reminded me of some large empty areas characteristic of last-gen gaming; unintentionally devoid. Then I realized it was meant to be that way.

Finally defeated Gravelord Nito and got out of the Tomb of Giants, probably my least favourite area in the game so far. I'm generally not much of a fan of visibility mechanics that get in the way of combat in games, it's really frustrating to have to switch between being able to see enemies and being able to fight them.

It would be much better if Nito's boss battle arena was as dark as entire Tomb Of The Giants was.

i think nito is just an underwhelming boss battle in general. it looks cool visually but it's pretty easy and mechanically not that interesting.

Plus fire-based weaponry and pyromancy is pretty broken up against him.
Not that pyromancy wasn't broken to begin with...

Can we have King's Field/Shadow tower subthread in this thread? I mean, both of this series influenced Souls series drastically. Not so long ago started King's Field (Japanese King's Field 2) and it's feels very nice. And it has so many references to Dark Souls. And I'm really dig that there is no music (despite ambient sounds) in both Shadow Tower games.

welp seath and guyra from KF (kalameet = guyra) have cameos in dark souls. also the serpent men are the widdas from KF4 and sen's fortress is the widda palace. there are probably others i'm missing.
other than that the connections between KF and d*souls are mostly in atmosphere and aesthetics (same slightly surrealist "misuse" of fantasy cliches, same feeling of alienation, minimalistic plots etc). and at least if we're talking dark souls, world design.

yeah i knew that but sen's fortress looks nothing like the actual castle lol. it's just a name reference. gwyn's keep in anor londo is pretty much exactly the cathedral of milan though.

try it with low hp and poise, takes quite a bit more strategy on glass cannon melee type characters (thief type builds)

Finally got farther than I had gotten in my laggy PC play-through
Got to Sen's Fortress
I REALLY hate those snake-neck men. This'll probably be slow going.
