Oh, man, that line on page 6: "At this particular moment in time I don't believe I have healthier or more deeply-felt respect for any object in the universe than this here shotgun."

I'm tempted to crop that and add it to my signature. I should keep it anyways, I'm sure I'll find a use for it one day.

Wait a minute, what's that? On page 14. In the lower left hand corner. Is that a renevant? So is this thing base on Doom 2 or were they privy to design docs and knew monster that weren't in Doom 1?

If only there was some way of telling when it was from. Like a month and year on the front page. Or something. Then we could have compared that time to the DOOM II release date. Alas.

Actually, I think it is based on based on the DOOM series. That is, the drug-induced fantasy it is based on is again based on the DOOM games.

Nope, even I remember playing this when it was new. My parents didn't agree with me doing it, though.

I've never played Doom before.

I feel so young!

Then I'd suggest you buy it (or get the shareware version) and play it. I like using Chocolate Doom for playing it.

ZDoom/Skulltag is my favorite sourceport.
it keeps the style, but adds enough modern conveniences to strike a nice balance.

Yes! Everyone must play this now, unless you want to wait an unspecified time for the next version to come out. It's really a nice wad, very much like an old adventure game. I'm glad to see that it's getting expanded because it's become one of my favourite wads.

Another wad that I'm very fond of has a new version out too. Cold As Hell (rapedshare link) adds lots of survival horror and clean, GZDoom visuals. It gets quite difficult with the reloading weapons and having to bandage up your wounds or you'll die from the bleeding but even if you find such a deviation from the core game a heresy you should give it a go just to see how a well real-life location can be rendered with the engine.

But if you want to celebrate DooM's fifteenth you should give Wonderful DooM a whirl. It seems like the perfect way to remember DooM as it's all the fun of reminiscence with the "hey, I thought that bit went differently..."-ness attached to the failings of memory.

Doom used to be the only FPS I liked.  Of course, now I like all sorts, but Doom is still my favourite.

Happy birthday! This makes me want to break out Ultimate Doom and play through it again.

P.S.- ID used hand-sculpted models to make some of the sprites, didn't they? Does anyone know where I can find pictures or documentation of that process?
