So here's the situation;

I recently was contacted by a company that does social flash games and they're interested in having me do some freelance work for them. They've asked me what sort of rate I charge. I have no idea what to answer! Is there any sort of standard for this? I don't want to scare them off, especially since they're a smallish company.

I'm an Animator, by the way.

What do I doooooo D:

Since you don't have an established rate, ask them what they are prepared to pay and negotiate from there. You don't want to give them a rate and find out later that they would have been willing to pay a lot more.

I posted this in another topic.  For the love of god read this.

Basically you need to figure out how much your peers are being paid for the same thing. 10-18 an hour is very low for skilled labor.  It depends on a huge amount of factors, based on your skill level, project needs, and who you are selling to.  Every project has a different price.  You do not want to sell yourself short.
