I'm looking for someone to join me for the upcoming 7dFPS jam. I'm a solid programmer (a decade of webdev and years of Lua, recently LÖVE and Corona) and graphic artists would be highly prefered. As would anyone who's not a US citizen.
I should point out, this game is supposed to be a critical statement on the gun fetish that many americans have. I sometimes get the idea that the US ain't far away from the next civil war, at least the got the weapons for it. And all those Stand-Your-Ground laws where people get shot and the killer doesn't go into jail, sometimes not even put to court, is quite worrying and one reason why I wouldn't want to travel to the US. Sorry if this sound anti-american, the US is a great country, it's just some of its citizens who are frightening me.
Here's a few paragraphs about the game idea, yes it is thought to generate as much hate mail as possible
Shoot First is a first person shooter, or rather a "first person to
shoot wins", game. It is a critical view on US gun ownership, practice and
legislation with a focus on Stand-Your-Ground. The game, its graphics, and dialogs will be highly
cyncial, as seen from a European point of view.
You are playing Bob Williams, a rigeous man living in a quiet side
street in a quiet small town in a quiet US state, somewhere south.
Well, not so quiet anymore, the local steelmill has shut down, people moved away,
big town atheists, immigrants, black people and even a group of punks moved
and there's always a racket on the street in front of Bob's beautiful lawn.
Bob's a proud gunowner, he became an excellent shot ever since his daddy
taught him shooting those annoying squirrels ond the old farm.
The player's tasks is to get rid of all the neighbours, on his belt is
not just a gun but also a new law, allowing him to defend himself, even
with his gun, against anyone who threatens his live. Make good use of
both and give Bob hope to live in a quiet neighbourhood once more.
