I wonder if this works with music too,
I like the idea of procedurally generated music
but most of the works don't produce emotional response
in me. Maybe if the good parts in a random sequence
are handpicked ....
Some sequencers do have a "randomize" function that will fill up your loop/beat/whatever with random data. Hit randomize a few times and see if it comes up with anything you like, then massage the data into something more perfectly formed. It's not a bad way to get ideas. The ambient music in Bert the Barbarian is random Fruity Loops data; it was made in about two minutes since time was short.
Fruity Loops has some quite advanced ramdomising feautures IIRC, letting you generate random streams of notes using specific chords or scales, in whatever range you specify.
